1050 forum posts 56 photos | Bill, Have you considered buying 6BA threaded rod? Rather less hassle than DIY if you need any significant length. Lots of hits on google/Ebay in several materials. |

Are you single pointing or running a die down the rod? As above, buying threaded rod may be easier, but obviously several choices. But threaded rod is expensive if you only need the threads on each end. |

543 forum posts 54 photos | Firstly my apologies is this post is considered to be hi-jacking the original thread (there's a pun in there somewhere). What is considered to be the best way to create very small diameter threads ( 1mm for instance) both internal and external, can you buy taps and dies in that sort of size? Thanks, Ian |

61 forum posts | Ian, search watchmaker die plate. Several size dies are all on one plate, they usually come with the silly tiny taps too. Hope this helps! |

2147 forum posts 222 photos | Hi Ian S2 Surprisingly (at least I was surprised) Machine Mart sell a set of taps and dies that range from 1mm to 2.5mm. I've only used mine on brass (and will not use them on ferrous at all) but they seem OK. Usual cautions - you need to guide the tool - both the taps and dies in these sizes - especially the small ones. I've just checked and they are currently £38.39 a set Probably not top quality at that price but for occasional (and careful) use they were the best option for my needs. Regards, IanT |

Thanks, Ian I have the set that IanT suggested and second his views. Have a look at Tracy Tools website, or if you are at Doncaster Show pick up one of their catalogues. - usual disclaimer - just a satisfied customer - other suppliers are available etc etc |
