Way back in the 70's on a visit to the UK I saw at a ME Exhibition a clock escapement consisted of balls, suspended on threads which wrapped themselves around a cylinder alternately in one direction, then the other.

I've got interested again - can anyone tell me what such a clock is called.

(I understand it keeps rotten time ... partly what makes it so loveable.)

Man, the guy who developed that had some balls.....to wrap around the cylinder.

Maybe called "globus servatit involuti" escapement?

The Google gurus should be along shortly.....

You could be thinking of the "flying pendulum" clock.

Here is one example

Yes I can see where that could lead to some odd search results. No limit to the depravity these days.

I know I'm old when I have to rotate my head 90 degrees to understand what is happening on screen at some sites after misdirected search criteria.....

(I'll get my coat and hat .... verbosity / content police will be hovering now.....)
