Tool/cutter grinder using Lidl grinder disc

Hi Folks, now that Lidl have their excellent angle grinder diamond impregnated discs back in stock, I thought I would make myself a cutter grinder similar to the one that appeared in MEW some time ago.

Despite searching the indexes I cannot find a reference to this article; could some kind reader point me in the right direction (It was not the Marl Noel article in 242), and save me having to go through a large pile of magazines.

Yes, Michael W, Hemingway do lots of very nice projects, but at a price. I get the impression that there is not an awful lot of work in building a Worden, but the downside is the cost, for which you could buy rather a lot of new Endmills.

On the other hand, I believe Professor Chaddocks device costs a lot in cash and a lot in terms of work building it.

There is a sort of copy of the latter on the Internet which only uses stock bar and no castings but will still require a lot of work to complete.

I have nearly completed Guy Lautards device, having purchased the drawings from him many years ago, subsequently acquiring the castings free from a generous friend. Snag here is that drawings from Canadian website and the need to make a pattern and get 2 castings made in the UK to keep cost down. Not a lot of work to do but need to engrave 3 dials.

Harold Hall's device is probably the best bet for not too much work and relatively cheap.

All seems to be make tools to make other tools to finish the project that you really want to do.

There is an alternative to a kit for a cutter grinder.

I made this grinder mainly from the scrap bin except for the motor and about a litre of epoxy.

I continue to use it every day, it is rock solid, excuse for the pun! there is negligible vibration. I get an almost mirror finish on carbide lathe tools with a fine diamond wheel.

I will be happy to email the Autocad CAD files to anyone that would like to make one. PM me. (No charge).

I note your comments re Tinker.

Norman Tinker did the original design and Guy Lautard took over all rights to it and modified it. Drawings are still available AFAIK, from his website, which his ex took over after the divorce. Its what happens when you hibernate in your den too long and frequently. GL himself now seems to be untraceable on the internet. I think it' quite a fascinating and simple design. I hope to put up a couple of piccies of my progress next week, as I'm trying to get the basic job done where the parts can be bolted together and shown off at Worthing clubs bits and pieces night next Thursday. Incentive to get finger out. Castings must have been in the roundtoits bucket for about 10 years and the drawings for much longer. I will start a new thread specifically for Tinker/Lautard T & C grinder jig.

I went and bought some of the Lidl discs. I found that they are very coarse and give a very rough finish on the tool. Or do they make them in different grades and I picked up the rough ones?
