Can anyone help with a wiring diagram for an AC Parvalux motor? It is a capacitor start motor, 230v AC. It puzzles me as it has 5 wires coming from it. Two white, one black and two thinner black wires.I believe it is an induction motor .I tried contacting Parvalux by email but they didn't bother to answer. Thanks, Brian

Brian,

This link shows the wiring for all of the Parvalux motors. Middle diagram at the top of the first page is probably yours, showing two white wires and the thick black. The two thin black wires could be for an internal thermal cutout.

The only sure way of knowing is to measure the resistance across all of the wires.

Hello Andy

Thanks for the quick reply. The resistance across the two white wires is 82.8 ohms and 42.3 ohms across the white and black. There is no resistance across the two thin black wires.

Surprised to hear Parvalux did not reply . I have always had immediate help from them when phoned, and never had any problems with replies to e-mails. Perhaps they did not get your e-mail ?

Just out of interest in General Questions top of sheet 2.

Parvalux motors - highly recommended.

...no resistance...

Just checking, to be certain, here. Do you mean short or open circuit resistance (zero or infinity Ohms). If they are open circuit, check to see if they are connections for the capacitor. One can never tell whether the capacitor has been changed...

Thanks for the reply. I used their website to send an enquiry but they didn't reply.

The resistance across the two black wires was infinity.

Very surprised you got no response from Parvalux. For many years they have had a reputation of superb customer service. They have supplied spares to me way out of guarantee period, they have always been most helpful.

Andrew.

Good to hear they have such a good reputation but unfortunately that doesn't help me!

Perhaps a phone call to them ?

Brian, if the two thin black wires are open circuit, they don't go to a thermal cutout (unless it's failed!).

I would tape the ends up and connect it up as the diagram I linked to.

Thanks Andy, I will try that. I probably also need to check the capacitor.

Hello Brian and everyone else, this is Paul from Parvalux Electric Motors Ltd in Bournemouth. I'm really sorry you didn't get the level of service you expected. We have two customer support teams in the UK, our service centre in Birmingham for spares and repairs and a technical and applications support team here in Bournemouth.

I can only imagine that your enquiry got gobbled up by an over zealous spam filter or somehow got lost in the ether of the internet.

You'll find contact details including email addresses, telephone numbers and physical addresses on the contact section of our website. www.parvalux.com

Thank you to everyone else for your positive comments about Parvalux we do normally offer a great service. Its not unusual for our Birmingham service centre to be asked to repair motors that have given over 25 years service!

Please try us again in the future Brian,

Best wishes,

Paul

I am still trying to get a wiring diagram for my motor. I have sent two more emails to Parvalux without any luck. The first time they promised to get back to me but then didn't bother. The second time they did not reply at all.

I just want to know how to connect the black, 2 white and 2 thinner black wires. It would be helpful to know how to check if the motor is OK.

Thanks

Brian

all my small collection of small fractional hp Paravalux motors have neutral to the black, live to one of the white wires and a motor capacitor of around 4micro farad between the two whites - if the motor goes round the 'wrong' way swap the live to the other white - none of mine have any other wires

(check voltage as they also did 115V motors)

Hello Paul,

As the owner of a couple of Pavalux motors myself, I was pleased to see your post here. Good Service is not so common these days but still always appreciated.

Regards,

IanT

Thank you Francis. I'll give it a try. I will ignore the two thin black wires. Lets hope I don't get a big bang!

the manufacturer's data sheet should be more explicit re capacitor value but 4micro Farad will show you if the motor works - most of mine are the small type often used with a gearbox for antenna rotation.
