![]() 910 forum posts 197 photos | Have seen EN36B is ok to weld before heat treatment but have been looking for a suitable Tig or Mig welding rod on the web but can't seem to get a definite rod. I have mild steel mig wire or tig 309L for dissimilar metals. Maybe one of the forum members could suggest a suitable welding rod. Thanks for any useful information.

![]() 7468 forum posts 230 photos | Hi Windy, here's what info I have: use a low hydrogen electrode. Pre heat at 250*C - 350*C and maintain heat during the weld, cool slowly in ashes or what ever. If possible stress relieve by heating to 600*C - 650*C and cool in still air. Welding is not recommended in hardened area, either through hardened or case hardened. Ian S C |

1505 forum posts 56 photos | I've used 7018 rods for arc welding the stuff to mild steel. TIG or MIG wouldn't have worked with my welders in the sizes I was using. I'd go for mild steel wire or typical A15 or A18 TIG rods if those processes are ok for the welds. EN36 doesn't harden to a great degree in its native form, but pre-heat, lack of quenching and stress relief as Ian says are preferable if possible. If you go on to case harden after welding, the mild steel filler will take up the hardening in a similar manner to the EN36. |

![]() 910 forum posts 197 photos | I did some test welds with the welding rods I have the Mig mild steel test I would not trust but have tried Tig 312 and seems to be very strong on a bend test I had the 312 for welding some HT steel a while ago. A link to what Lincoln say The welding I'm doing is more for sealing than for a joint under much load. |
