This is an oscillating engine , the flywheel is approx 6 inch in diameter and it stands about 10 inches tall. It has dual water pumps and a lubricating pump. There seems to be a balancing system to ensure the correct pressure is present to keep a seal on the oscillating cylinder. Bore is about 1 inch , stroke 1.75 inches. There are lubricators on every bearing.

Since I know nothing of the history of the engine , any comments or observations would be most welcome. Is is freelance or a commercial design, was it intended for a boat or ...? Somebody took a lot of effort to design and manufacture this engine , i am very interested in any thoughts anyone would like to share, thanks in advance' Martin

Sorry, Martin, can't help ... except to add this **LINK** to your album; as a pre-emptive strike against the typical whinge of "wot engine?"

Martin,

I don't know much about engines, but that looks to me like it may have been designed to run machinery from a belt around the flywheel/pulley.

Possibly for running a lathe or compressor.
