Does anyone know what RAL colour is used on Fobco Drills? Mine needs a repaint and some fettling and I might as well paint it in the correct colour if I can find out what it is.

I don't even know if Fobco are still manufacturing?

Andrew.

Andrew,

I had a similar problem several years ago with my Myford Super 7 cabinet. I took one of the belt guards to an automotive paint matching service and they matched and filled a few large aerosol cans for me. It worked really well.

Myford cream is really quite close. And you'll know what it is next time......

Hi Hillclimber,

I have some Myford cream paint and it is very pale compared to the Fobco yellow.

I found the yellow on my Fobco Star such a yucky shade I painted it as near as I could get to LNER apple green. Does that make me a vandal? Maybe............

Not in my book, although I notice that the photo on page 67 of yours dodges the issue by being monochrome!

I think the Myford cream/yellow is yucky, too and re-painted my ML8 with light green Hammerite.

Wow, I'm flattered, ega. Nice to know that someone remembers the book, after it has been out of print fr around 30 years!

Hello Mike,

I really don't care what people paint their kit, it is up to them! I like to get my kit back to the as new state, hence my quest for an authentic colour. What I paint my Fobco is up to me, if only I could find the right colour!

I may just have some authentic colour showing in one place, but I doubt it will be enough to get it scanned and matched, but worth a try. If people think I am rather odd in this respect, they are probably correct!!!!!!

Andrew.

Andrew, I tried looking for a match with a RAL/BS colour chart - and could not find a correct match. Hence plumped for a colour that I had a can of - Paragon's Myford cream, which I found to be closer than I imagined.

I cleaned up and painted a powerhead as I'm building it out with an attached pendulum control for VFD. And will post a pic....

Cheers, Colin

Hi Colin,

That is interesting I was comparing the Myford cream colour on my old bed. I do have a new can of the Paragon Myford cream, maybe the old bed has faded over the years, so I will try some of the fresh stuff. A can is far too much for a Myford bed! Be good if I could use some more on the Fobco!

Thanks,

Andrew.
