Hi all.

I've been lurking around this site for a while now and decided it was just time to sign up. I live in Ethics and am just retired. I now spend my days wandering the High Street looking for queues to stand in and complaining about how long it takes to get served. Other times, I go to my man cave and try to improve my skills bashing up bits of metal.

I have just finished a Universal Pillar Tool and would post a pic if I knew how. I am also building a Fowler A7 Traction engine in 2 inch scale hence the need for a UPT to assist with riveting. I have had the castings for the UPT and TE for around 25 years now, so they should be mature and de-stressed, unlike me on both counts. The Hemingway castings machined beautifully but it took two days to clean the lathe.

I have ordered a flat cap, collarless shirt, thick belt and braces so that I may join this forum and feel truly a part of it. I am a mere beginner at this lark so please don't beat me up if my postings show inexperience. I am on my third lathe now and second mill. I also have a shaper and a Kerry pillar drill. I use the Kerry almost every day.

Best regards to everyone here

Gary

Thank you Neil. Nuffin rong wiv Ethics. We got a pier......

Thanks also to Matt, vintage engineer, and Mike for the warm welcome. I would never take the pith fwom Cwiss Eubank. I met him a week or so ago. His feet are HUGE...... As for moleskin strides, I seem to have missed out on that article of engineering clothing. I am currently researching what type of oil to soak into my flat cap when it comes.

Mechman48.... you bin looking over my fence...?

Thank you all for the kind welcome.

Gary

Hi Gary and welcome

Know what you mean about queues and moaning about poor service but let's face it someone's got to do it wink

Like the sound of the Fowler I'm spending quite a bit of time in the man cave at the moment as my Burrell is stripped down and making it ready for a repaint

It's funny you should mention a 5 thou hammer in your name, I've known a special engineers hammering technique known as a 2 thou hit. And another hammer known as "the attitude adjuster". smile p

Harry, I have sent you a message.

michael-w..... I have known many people who have failed the attitude test.

I've also worked out how to post a pic or two in an album.
