Not Ely either, but near Cambridge. Pity about the A10 and A14 in between.

There's a club in Brandon, where I'll be going to see what they're like next Wednesday. Ram Hotel, 7-30.

See you there?

Welcome! You'll find plenty of good advice and info on this forum.

I'm a member of the Peterborough Society of Model Engineers. We cater for almost every interest, as we demonstrated at the Spalding M E Show for the last two years, and will again this year.

Come and have a look at us, next meeting is Monday 18th April.

Hello,

I have come across this post some 5 years after it was created!

I am interested in founding a model engineering group in Ely, and was wondering if there is any interest?

I was thinking of beginning with some kind of online forum allowing for Q & A and show & tell.

I'm not sure the best way to go about this, I was thinking of starting a group on Facebook. But if anyone has a better idea I'm happy to go along with that.

Am loathe to suggest poaching members from Cambridge or Peterborough, but do you have a local magazine,

"Ely Life" or something like it, in nwhich you could pose the question?

Local newspaper might mention?

Blag a spot on the local radio station?

Hi Howard,

Thank you for your reply, and suggestions.

This is what happens when one doesn't get on with things straight way, time slipps by very quickly. These last few weeks have been very busy.

I have created a group on facebook, I'm not sure if I'm allowed to share the link here; I'll need to check that.

I have mentioed this to a local network called spotted in Ely, so I'll see what interest there is.

P S M E held their first meeting, last night, for goodness knows how many months About 11 attended.

If you can't find anything closer, the next meeting is Monday September 6th (See the website for the location in Eye so a little closer your way on the A47 than coming into Peterborough.

In Haddenham. Not much metal at the moment, the shed is coated in wood shavings and dust.

If you create a group, club or society make sure you call it "ELY MODEL ENGINEERING ......." so that search engines and people can find it. It is a really bad idea to call it after some local pub/park/landmark or gimmicky name so it isn't obvious where it is.

Find your local Model Railway clubs, Men's Shed, Makers, wood turners and carvers clubs, U3A, etc and let them know. Even have a word with the vicars of all the churches in range to let them know as they will have lots of contacts in their community.

Edit: The Exeter and District MES, EDMES, got initial publicity just by mentioning on here that they were starting with a meeting. Whoops, there I go again giving EDMES some publicity.
