firebox paint ?

Hi All

what would people recommend for a good paint for a coal fire firebox ??

paint i used last just greys up and flakes off??

I usually use VHT manifold paint for anything that gets hot. cheeky

Yes I used a tin of high temp paint that claims to handle 650c yet every firing paint flakes off.

What about stove enamel? The kind used on wood burners. That might work.

Or you can buy stove polish which is graphite based. You would probably have to re do it occasionally but there's no chance it will flake.

I give them ago, repainting not a problem, it's the flaking that gets me having to clean it all off etc.

I used black barbecue paint on the base of my stove top fan/Stirling Engine, after an hour or so it went gray, it hasn't flaked off (yet), it is a spray can paint.

I've used stove paint- on stoves- Thin if needed, dry and heat the paint to working temp. Graphite black stove polish helps to stop grey flaking.

I think like Hollowpoint said, an oil based compound would be much more resistant than a paint that dries out.
