Has anyone used or converted a flamefast torch & associated pipework valves to run on LPG please. If so what is involved and how difficult/ expensive was it. it is a DS100 hearth with an RF 60 ( NG ) torch, which I presume to mean natural gas.

Many thanks

BK.

I think they just need the jets changing

You could try a variable regulator with propane or butane, with the existing jet, and see what you get, I have a flamefast brazing hearth, the older round type and will be doing this very job as well, mine has a blue gas hose. so I assume it is for NG, so the existing jet will be too big, I have used a spare flamefast torch with compressed air and propane, and the flame is very long and large (I call it "the blowlamp of doom" but controlable using a regulator and the torch controls. Remember, the torch controls vary the volume of gas, not the pressure so you will need a regulator as well. Most domestic gas hobs come with two sets of jets, one for NG and one for propane, so that could be the place to start, as there will be at least four different sized jets in the propane conversion pack that comes with the hob. Hope this helps, let the group know how you get on.

Phil

Thanks for initial replies, Flamefast site does not seem to have info on the older models but I intend to make contact with them by phone & see what the response is. Currently I use a variable propane regulator with my hand held torches - 1 x rothenburger and a set of Clarke hand held trigger type. I would be happy enough just to have the hearth alone and use with my hand held setup, but as the blower and solenoid valves all seem to work perfectly well it seems a shame not to get it working properly. My hoses are red for gas and blue for air. the gas has a ball valve and the thumbwheel on the torch but there does not seem to be any flow control on the air, is this normal?

I use a flamefast at work[local high school] connected to the gas supply, I also have one at home that I run on propane,I contacted flamefast & they said to change the jets on my torches for propane[3 torches] so at the price I didn't bother, they burn as good as the schools but setting the regulator is sensitive otherwise I find them o-k.

I did this job a few years back as no gas in vaillage. I use a caravan regulator on the propane and vary gas with tumbwheel on the torch.

I asked Flamefast and they part exed the old torch and 3 phase compressor at a fair price. It really is just a jet change.

The air flow is fairly constant and you vary the amount of gas. Gives a "generous" flame and sounds like a banshee but oh boy does it work !

Regards Ian
