71 forum posts | Got a lubricator, got a chassis - no room ! There is a foul between draw hook shaft, angles for fixing buffer beam and cylinder block. Drawing shows it directly behind hook which is clearly wrong. Where does it go?? Thanks, Phil |

71 forum posts | Thanks Terry, is your front hook sprung? My hook-stem with spring, nut and washer extends behind the bumper by about 1" and is about 1/4" diameter so lub. has to miss that. I will try and take a picture tomorrow if I haven't solved it. I know it is a big ask but any chance of a pic. from underneath? Phil |

178 forum posts | You seem to have decided on a mechanical lubricator. There is another alternative - a displacement lubricator. The picture shows one fitted to a Pansy cab - the output remains to be connected at the top and down through the hole next to the boiler. The expansion tank fits neatly under the floor between the back axle and the brake operating shaft. The cab of 5764 - the lubricator flow sight glasses are on the right (I think!) All included in the best possible taste - it is probably not viable to change course now. Hope it goes OK. Where I went wrong was building to drawing; the drawing has the drawhook going 1.25" back from front of buffer beam to accommodate a spring and this is impossible at the front with the lubricator. Another big error on the drawings and clearly LBSC never made the loco from his plans ! I will convert the hook to unsprung and then put the lubricator where it is shown on the plans Thanks again, Phil |

71 forum posts | Thanks Michael I have copies of the articles but they are full of 'I've described this many times before so I won't do it again' for critical operations and lots of text telling me the completely obvious. I had rather hoped that I could build the loco from the drawings but they are really only a reasonable indication of what is required (leaving aside those who think the valve set-up is all wrong). Another example that comes to mind - the motion plate. The cut out for the crosshead pump drive isn't on the frame drawing, it just 'appears' later when you have to strip the chassis down to remove the motion plate to put the cut-out in. Anyway lubricator going in nicely now, the hook is solid to the buffer beam and I am doing the pipe, linkage and filler Good job we didn't make Airbus' like this, Phil |

I think back in the day these builds got done a lot of chaps worked it out together. these days I don't think that there is the level of building and so as a result the level of advice and no how is also dropping. My own Pansy dates to 1964 and Its nice to think that it is still giving joy after 51 years. michael |
