Machine Movers

Hi,

Newbie here! Buying a milling machine from my current workplace and I need some way of getting it out of our yard to my house about 3 miles down the road. I was wondering who people use in the midlands area to move hobby type machines?

The mill is slightly smaller that a Bridgeport, so not huge.

Any advice/contacts?

They moved my lathe a few weeks ago. They are professional machine movers and the boss is a friend of mine. Cost? Very cheap? .......well free actually! (What do you mean--- jammy?)

If not obvious how to rig it for lifting have a look around the web, this forum, and HSM forum for threads on moving turret mills, and examples of how not to. Your own works machine shop might know the local movers and if not go round some other industrial works, bigger garages etc asking who they use. You are only after a lorry with a hiab capacity 1.5 tonnes actual lift but need one whose operator has experience of moving machines not just dumping pallets of bricks and that is the snag.

Also make sure you are ready to receive it so the crane can place it on rollers or firm blocks etc to save the problem of lifting it later.

Hi Olly,

I recently purchased a Chester 626 knee mill which is a smaller version of the Bridgeport, well quite smaller in fact though still 400kgs +, and the lifting instructions are to use a still bar through two holes in the upper turret just below the head.

I used Landylift to collect the mill and deliver it to home and the service was excellent and I felt reasonably priced considering it was installed right into my workshop for the price

Does anybody have any recommended contacts for machine moving please? A 2nd hand milling machine from west midlands to Derbyshire.

Landylift was highly recommended but unfortunately not doing machine moves at the moment.

A few eeeks ago I used Paul from K M Jackson (Machinery Removals and Installation) who are based in LIchfield, Staffordshire. He has a flatbed truck with a 4 ton HIAB. Paul can be contacted on 07894 541002.

He moved a Gates PBM-2000 (bridgeport clone) for me.

I can bring this thread up to date concerning Landylift operations, having had a Churchill Cub lathe delivered by Steve Cox today, and a very professional job I might add too

He is now handling machine movement requests on a case by case basis and only on Saturdays. His present full time job is installing bar feed equipment to CNC machinery which is keeping him pretty busy..

He is retaining his truck with all the tackle he uses for the time being to keep his options open, but knowing I would be updating the Forum accordingly, he did ask me to point out this change in his business affairs.

Thanks for the suggestion Colin - much appreciated. In the end a friend helped me out. He's got a flat bed truck with a HIAB behind the cab and also had a pallet truck. I manged to borrow an engine hoist so between us managed to move it
