Saddened to hear that we lost a great friend to model engineering and model railways today, Bob Symes. "Model World" was required TV watching when I grew up, along with many wonderful one off programmes and the occasional item on "Tomorrow's World". If I recall, he was also heavily involved in preserving a number of full size railways. A nice guy who will be sadly missed.

Yeah,

I remember old bob he had a nice unhurried patter which kept one interested with a no nonsense quality all through his narrations.

Jesse.

I always remember him as Bob Symes-Shutzmann as he was credited in his wonderful Model World series. Like Chris, this was required viewing when I was a lad!

He was great communicator and character.

What a shame. I regularly used to cycle past his house with the most impressive 'garden' railway shown in the above link, Green Dene.

Loved his TV appearances too.

I always greatly enjoyed anything he appeared on, A delight to watch (and listen to). Will be much missed.

Still, not a bad innings - 91 is a fair age.

Hi, yes a very polite and interesting man, I had the pleasure of having a little and very interesting chat with him at Ally Pally some years ago as he was watching the large model railway layout that was in the far right hand corner from the main entrance. Used to enjoy his well presented TV appearances.

Regards Nick.
