An aid to marking out, maybe.

Hi, I've recently joined the Super Adept owners club and amongst the little bag of extras that goes with these things I spotted this little plate. I recollect that style of scribing being on old plastic 12" school rulers and the angled lines allowed you to split a dimension to 1/100" pretty easily. What type of craftsman would be likely to make and use something like this after school days? Bob D |

![]() 23121 forum posts 1360 photos | Bob, That's an interesting, and potentially useful litle device; it may have been used as a fine-reading scale on the Super Adept. ... I wonder if you will find matching screw-holes on your lathe? Incidentally; that marking is known as a Diagonal Scale, and I suspect that the third hole in your plate [upper-left in your photo] relates to the way it was engraved. Although it's not a particularly pretty piece of work, I think it was probably made by someone who knew what he was doing. MichaelG. . Edit: for those who may not be familiar; here is a good note about Diagonal Scales. Edited By Michael Gilligan on 07/12/2014 04:39:13 |

304 forum posts 17 photos | I could have done with something like this a few days ago when adapting a light to take a GU10 bulb... A brief look with a rule gave the impression the bulb holder fixing screws where 12mm apart - the poor fit and a search on the net showed they should have been 12.1 ! W. |
