Only just through the letter box but it promises to be the best MEW I've received in many a year.

Thought provoking too, seeing the pic of a debonair JS standing on his more tidy than usual milling table I could n't help but wonder whether he'd considered indexing the rotary table to at least a degree accuracy by windlassing in a hawser with knots at six inch intervals.

Mine came an hour ago and I flicked through thinking how much better MEW has been lately. The content is what interested me many years ago when I first I took MEW, it went a bit into the doldrums for a while, this latest issue however could be the best ever,

I'll second those observations - the wind of change has blown it out of the doldrums.

Mine dropped through the letterbox this morning about 10:30 - huge shock as post usually arrives late lunch time.

Have not opened it yet, too busy tiling after new kitchen just been fitted. Have to agree though, Neil is doing a great job. It can't be easy with so many factions and die hards to satisfy.

Have made the decision to not renew subscription to ME though, just not enough articles that have any real interest as most are well out of my reach/capability. At my age I will NOT be making a steam loco, any form of traction engine or anything of that scale. ME is a little too dyed in the wool for me, but hey! Ho! Can't please everyone I suppose.

So touched was I by the reproduction of the idyllic rural 1928 workshop and sparkling prose that accompanied it that I too was moved to poetry.

' The rain pours into my workshop, which makes me cuss

as my treasured tools are all covered in rust!'

Perhaps poetry corner will become a regular feature, as I'm sure we all have a favourite little ditty

I was especially taken with JS's inspired use of a boring tool as a ball turning tool, what a clever idea from this eminently practical man.
