That’s exactly what I used to wire it up.

Hi Phil,

Thanks for your help.
I've tested the board and as far as I can understand it works well. The voltages are correct and once mounted on the TI board, the power already reaches LED1 and LED3.

It happened to me the same as to Zan ("the display connector pins projection under the board fouls and shorts into one of the small jumpers on the board if it's pushed fully home", but tomorrow I will cut the pin concerned so that the assembly stay robust.

If it wasn't for Zan's message I would still not be aware of the problem, because I don't have the display yet so I can understand what's going on...

For those who have not yet assembled the board and since the terminal block once assembled covers some of the information printed on the board, it may be a good idea to take note of that information before mounting for ease of use.

Hi Phil,

I already flashed the TI board but because I don't have the display (which I already ordered), I couldn't see the output. There were no error messages, but I would be more confident if I could see any output ...
Can I use an "LCD Display and Keypad Shield" for Arduino?
If so, which pins to use in the shield?

The Arduino shield, identical to mine, can be viewed here: https://www.osepp.com/electronic-modules/shields/45-16-2-lcd-display-keypad-shield

Thanks in advance

Well my encoder arrived today, I wasn't expecting for at least another couple of weeks, so I nearly have all the bits to bench test, it's getting all exciting.

Doubtful . It may work if you have the same 4 connections, but the ti software from clough42 is specific to the led n key board . My led n key board came in two days so why risk it?

have you got the stepper turning? Still working on mine, but I suspect a drippy joint on the interface board. I’m going to check the ti board with a led conjecture to the gpio

I put your kits in the postbox this morning 😁

As far as I know this wouldn't work with this display without changes to the code, the structure of the display is completely different to the key n LED display, not sure about the interface without reading the spec's.

Hi Zan,

Thanks for your help.

Zan: My led and key board came in two days so why risk it?
DC: I hope the one I ordered takes only two days to arrive ... Usually it takes longer.

Zan: Have you got the stepper turning?
DC: I haven't reached that stage yet.

Does anybody have STL for the LED/button control box?

I have ordered aluminium box, but it takes some time to get it. Might as well to print one in meantime.

I have control board and 3D printed buttons and lid, only missing the boxy part.

Here’s the links to my modified front panel and spacer - the led & key that I purchased from Ebay had a different hole spacing to James’s.

https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3904034

you can follow the link to his thingiverse page from mine as it’s a remix of his original - and that has a box that you can print that matches the dimensions of the metal article. The you tube links below show my install on a Axminster / Sieg sc4.

Thank you Jason,

I found your and Clough42, in Thingiverse, but could not find the box from either of them.

I'll check the youtube vids, I am sure they are useful.

Hello everyone.

Upon arrival of the "LED and key display", by my mistake, I "burned" the board F280049C. No longer lit LED1 and LED3 and no smoke was produced.
Before the error, it seemed to be working fine showing information on the display.
The error could have been one of two:
a - having powered the USB port from a bad power source or,
b - trying to use stepp motor driver TB6560 i may have made the wrong connections.

Then I ordered another board that has arrived and it works.

Now I have some questions:
1 - In the "LED and key display" the button S1 is not used? I searched the Claugh42 movies and found no answer.
2 - I have used the stepp motor driver TB6560 for other purposes.
Can I use it temporarily in assembly? Has anyone tried it?
3 - I do not have a 3D printer to make the box for the display. Does anyone know where I can buy one that suits the purpose?

Best regards,

Dias Costa

Dias,

box can be purchased here.
https://www.digikey.co.uk/product-detail/en/bud-industries/CU-124-G/377-1932-ND/439209

as for the led & key module, all buttons are used accept number 7. The up down buttons use buttons 6 & 8, and 7 is unused to allow a little more room between them.

Jason,

Thanks for the help and information on where I can buy the display case.
Since I don't have a 3D printer and my milling machine is not a CNC, I won't be able to do a decent job of drilling the holes and engraving the words on the box lid so that it looks good and essentially functional.
I can see in your work that the holes and writing on the lid of the box was very well done. Could you please tell me if it was your job or if there is any way to buy it?
If I can't buy the box ready made, I'll have to look for some other solution that will never be as perfect and functional as yours.

Best Regards
Dias Costa

Dias, it’s my work, remodelled from James’s files. My key panel had different hole spacing, so I modified the 3D model accordingly.

the label is easily printable, and avoids any engraving. Mine was done on weatherproof / oil-proof laser labels, but I guess it could be done on an inkjet if you where to laminate or put something over the top of it to avoid oil taking the ink off.

Dias,

I can 3D print you the top cover, I bought the metal case and lid off ebay and as I don't own a milling machine I 3D printed the top,

If you get the case and Confirm the measurements I will print and send you a top, no problem.

Jason,

Thanks for your help.
I didn't know about the existence of that material for making labels. It will surely be of use to me.
Thanks for the information.
Could you please tell me if you made the green cover for the buttons or if you got them in another way?
And if you bought them, can you tell me where?

Thanks in advance
Dias Costa
