Can the Prusa use wax fillament instead of plastic? If so a good way to make lost wax castings in metal.

Paul

Lot's of videos out there of people using lost PLA instead of lost wax. Seems to work OK.

PLA can have burnout problems with fine detail, Moldlay and Machinable Wax filaments are supposed to melt and pour out and then burn out clean, machinable wax actually post the result of a burnout test, the manufacturers of Moldlay don't seem to be aware of the basics of the lost wax process but users who are seem to get reasonable results,

:D

Neil,

I wanted to print some parts which were problematic from a support point of view with the version of Cura shipped with the machine and spent the time to get my head (part-way) around the latest version of Cura, the addition of Roof and Column support options is a big step forward, speed control for each feature of a layer is also available, plus much I haven't read about yet!

Advice needed.

A 3D printer is one of the items on my bucket list and prices are falling, making them more affordable.

Recently saw an add for a Prusa i3 Pro B support 5 filament MK8 extruder for A$219.

Is this the latest model? Should I get upgrades any of the parts ?

The i3 is the current Prusa model so that clone is a clone of the latest model, I assume that's what you were asking?

Hi Nick,

I have just placed an order for a Prusa I3 Pro X Print 6 filament printer with auto bed level sensor. More expensive than the standard I3. (Hope that I have made the right choice). Should arrive in a couple of weeks.

Paul.

Paul,

That's an updated version of the one I built at the end of last year. See **LINK**

They might have corrected some of the faults I found now.

I've just fitted a Mk3 Aluminium heated bed to my Factory 3D printer along with a DC-DC SSR and a separate 24v 15A PSU.

The bed now heats up as fast as the hot end for PLA and very close for ABS and Nylon, Happy Days!

I found that a 12mm aluminium silicate blanket under the bed had the same effect,.

Neil,

That is impressive, I'll have to get me some of that blanket! There must be variation in the Mk1 beds as mine struggled to reach 100C for ABS on the standard 12V PSU even after adding some insulation under it.

New toy has just arrived. Now to check that all parts are up to spec before I start the assembly. Never enough time in a day though. Neil, where did you get the AS blanket ?

Paul.
