![]() 7061 forum posts 719 photos | I wasn't planning to make a mitre joint, but one like this: All that's needed after silver soldering is a quick clean up of the joint and drill out of the holes to depth. I'll probably use a short threaded spigot on the vertical part to hold the halves in alignment. The thread will disappear when the holes are drilled to depth. The only thing I'm not sure about is part of the silver solder joint being in tension rather than shear. Andrew |

![]() 19226 forum posts 749 photos 86 articles | Fiddly job today (for me). 7/16 square bar, needed to become to bits of 7/15 x 5/15, stepped down to 13/32 x 9/32 with a 1/4" spigot that needed to be milled to a x cross section with a round-nosed mill. making one at each end of the bar using the DROs should have been straightforward, but I seemed to be cursed with slipping cutters..? Eventually the penny dropped - it was a problem with the z-axis read head, one of the three screws holding it together had come lose and it was hopping back and forth between two readings 20-thou apart. Only three scrappers... Now I have to drill and tap four 12BA holes and silver solder on two cylindrical bosses at 90 degrees to each other for each one. Plenty more room for cockups. Neil

7/15 x 5/15 ? ... I understand 1/16", 1/8", 1/32", 1/64", but you've lost me on 15ths... typo? George |
