Gentlemen,

Life has never been so quiet and productive since I bought a call blocking phone system, the PPI, Accident chasers and SPAM dont bother me at all now, I know they rang but the phone doesnt ring unless the person trying to contact tells the system their name, Heaven angel

Me too. A lot of phones now come with "anonymous call barring". I have a Gigaset phone which I bought from Argos for something like £30. It was a Which? best buy, made in Germany(?) and has all the latest features (colour screen, text, voicemail, caller display etc). It has eliminated all of those anonymous, computer dialled calls.

Most ISP / telephone companies also allow you to block specific numbers / last caller number if you get a call from someone you don't want to hear from again who isn't anonymous. I've used Talktalk and Zen who both offer this for free if you can be bothered to find out how to do it..

The TPS (phone) and MPS (mail) are a failure. Not helped by the fact that the Royal Mail are taking money to short cut the MPS scheme and deliver spam directly to your letter box, which makes a joke of the MPS scheme. Lucky that technology has come to the rescue to tackle nuisance calls, although it galls me to see people paying up to £100 a time for special boxes to weed out spam calls when phones like the Gigaset (and others) do it for free.

PS - in fact, checking my Talktalk account just now, I see they are offering anonymous call barring for free. You just have to log in and turn it on. I expect that's true for may of the telecom / ISP companies now, so worth checking if yours offers the same. Save throwing money at a pointless, expensive "box" or replacing your existing handsets.

Murray,

I printed out a polite notice and attached to my front door. So far have had no spam mail though the letterbox from the mailman. It has a bright red back ground with white writing. The local council sent out something similar to this a while back for the purpose of reducing SPAM.

Ed.

Polite Notice.

No Leaflets or flyers.
No charity collections or bags.
No mail unless to addressee.

No callers without appointment.
No Canvassers.
No Religious groups.

Thank you.

Chester Machine Tools who produce a lathe and a range of chucks but can't supply an adaptor plate to fit their own expensive chuck to their own b----y lathe and kid you that making the plate is a simple machining exercise when it is a very complex job, especially if you are fairly inexperienced.

Martyn,

I assume that you are referring to the old din standard backplate that Chester have fitted on the DB10 lathe (seig super C6) for the 5" chuck. If so pre machined backplates are available from ArcEuroTrade - as are most backplates. Quite why Chester don't stock them is beyond me - bad business practice at the very least - but that's their decision.
