Hi MC Black 2, I think I would have done the same thing rather than spend £20 or £30 on one spanner that would be used for one thing and if it wears out, just get another cheap one.

Regards Nick.

Correcting other people's English is a minefield.

Autocorrect is funnier than most comedians, text message as received:

Happy Birthday to You,
Happy Birthday to You,
Happy Birthday Dead Husband,
Happy Birthday to You.

Dave

Perhaps that's a new slant on predictive text, be afraid.sad

"Happy Birthday" is so well-known that, if predictive text means anything at all, you would think it would get this right.

In Microsoft Word it is possible to set up a substitution of NOT for not and then set automatic correction on. Going into the file - options - proofing selection page allows such substitutions to be seen and deleted if required. I don't know if this is the software being used in the case above but maybe a similar option is available in other word processing software.

I can honestly say that in over forty years of using computers I've never had autocorrect or predictive text enabled on any device I've owned. Their shaky grasp of human language makes them, for me, more trouble than they're worth.

The Special Software to which I referred in an earlier posting is "typeIt4Me". It helps me use a computer with my disabilities. It will substitute any phrase for a chosen abbreviation - I don't know if this is similar to Word but it works whenever I type anything.

So, for example, if I type "\ny", the computer replaces it with "My very best wishes for a Happy, Healthy, Peaceful, Successful, Prosperous and Stress-free New Year." and if I type "\\\" it enters my full name.

I use the "\" character to prefix my selected abbreviations on the basis that it rarely is used in ordinary text.

I have been using it as long as I've been diagnosed with bicipital and supraspinatus tendinitis. I have tried voice recognition software but - even after extensive training - it withs pretty useless.

As far as I know there's no voice recognition software that will work with my Mac, so TypeIt4Me facilitates communication.

The chap who wrote it lives in South East London and responds promptly to queries. I have yet to meet anybody who can write the same about Microsoft!

My arm and shoulder now hurt so if anybody wants further explanation, send me a UK telephone number and I'll ring you.

I used auto correct in MS Word whilst I was working, it was great to use a couple of letters and having it changed into those words one used regularly writing reports and such.

Can you type only with the arm with tendonitis? Or perhaps you have only one arm?

Correcting other people's English is a minefield.

So probably best left alone, or done in private, like editors do...

Better than spending £30 on a spanner with my ever decreasing pension.

A young fit person could have probable done it in 20 minutes!
