Thank you for taking the time to respond.

I did NOT know that I have more than one log in

How can I find out what details are held about me?

I need to talk to somebody about this because all this is making me VERY depressed

With best wishes and thanks again.

I've written to Rizla+ and NOT had the courtesy of a response

I have now had a belated response from Rizla+ and the lady with whom I was communicating refused to tell me the actual thickness (as against relative thickness) of the different products.

I have pointed out that there a big market in the engineering community - but no further response yet!

I have inherited a tin with pieces of shim of different thicknesses

I assumed that packs of "assorted sizes of shims" would be available but since I have more than a lifetime's supply have NOT investigated.

Are suck packs no longer available?

Thread: Accessing Digital archive

I have subscribed to the £1 for three issue Print + Digital.

I have succeeded in being able to read the current issue on my iPad

I would like to be able to read the Digital Archive on my Desktop Computer.

I have completed my Profile here: "https://www.model-engineer.co.uk/members/details.asp" using the subscriber number that the helpful lady gave me when I paid.

But when I click "Magazines" in the Green Bar, the computer tells me:

"Sorry, this is Subscriber-only content...'

That is the subscription number on the cover sheet with the copy of Model Engineers' Workshop magazine that arrived today.

I should be most grateful if somebody would kindly tell me the telephone number of whoever can tell me how to access the digital archive.

Very many thanks

How can one tell if one has genuine OR fake Rizla+?

I'll try measuring the thickness later.

Very many thanks for the warning.

As I was walking back to my car after a medical appointment yesterday, I noticed a chap with a stall selling, inter alia, lighters and cigarette papers.

So I purchase three boxes of Rizla+ green for a pound.

I suspect that I now have a lifetime's supply!

Use a UPS/DHL reseller such as Parcel2Go etc. You get an amazing deal on multiple boxes to the same address.

I too got an "amazing" deal using UPS via Parcel2Go, though not amazing in a good sense; UPS are still unable to trace a £500 Femi bandsaw I returned to Amazon at the beginning of July.

I bought the highest possible protection for the return [~£70], and though Amazon have now refunded me the purchase price ["as a goodwill gesture"] I am still waiting for my £70 courier fee back [plus compensation?] from Parcel2go/UPS. The last communication I had from them was over two weeks ago telling me they're still "investigating" the missing parcel. If I do nothing, will I ever hear from them again, I wonder.

Royal Mail Letterpost or Parcelforce?

I do hope you have reported the broken tileto the supplier.

01/08/2020 12:14:53

Please tell us which carrier was used.

There would NOT have been a problem if all the space between the studding and the tube had been filled with Bubblewrap on both occasions.

But it wasn't.

The company that sent the studding have lost me as a customer for ever .

As for Parcelforce, I will never knowingly buy something by mail order if the seller advises that it will be delivered by Parcelforce (known in some areas as "ParcelfArce".

Your view may differ - and I respect that.

Thank you for taking the time to respond.

The studding must have been bent when Parcelforce people handled the tube.

It wasn't very bent but it WAS bent.

If the studding had been wrapped in sufficient bubble wrap to stop it moving it the tube it might NOT have been bent due to rough handling. But there was insufficient wrapping the first time and no wrapping or padding on the second attempt.

I have no way of knowing if the studding was bent when it left the supplier but, going by the damaged condition in which other items delivered by Parcelforce arrived here, the damage was caused by Parcelforce.

I bought #10-32 studding because that's the thread on my Taig lathe. Although a M5 nut will fit on a #10 bolt, it doesn't work the other way round.

If I had realised the problems that I would have buying #10 threaded items, I would have changed everything to M5 when I bought the lathe and saved a great deal of expense and stress

With best wishes and thanks again.

The protecting tube was undamaged

I have had other things delivered by Parcelforce in the past which have arrived damaged.

Since, several years ago, Parcelforce put a "to be signed for" box in my dustbin on the day the bins were emptied, I have had little faith in them.

The box contained several hundred pounds-worth of computer equipment (a 20Mb hard drive - the largest available then!). It took three years before I received an apology from Parcelforce - and that was all I ever received!

I now choose to have things delivered by Royal Mail Letterpost and try to avoid businesses that deliver by Parcelforce or Courier.

The Special Software to which I referred in an earlier posting is "typeIt4Me". It helps me use a computer with my disabilities. It will substitute any phrase for a chosen abbreviation - I don't know if this is similar to Word but it works whenever I type anything.

Thanks for reminding us we don't know the circumstances others, have to manage to participate in the forum.

It strikes me you must have shown real dedication to manage two hours of filing on that spanner!

Neil

Better than spending £30 on a spanner with my ever decreasing pension.

A young fit person could have probable done it in 20 minutes!

Can you type only with the arm with tendonitis? Or perhaps you have only one arm?

Typgn with other hnad would be a dissater!

Since my arm and shoulder now hurt, send me a UK telephone number and I'll ring you for further explanation/

The Special Software to which I referred in an earlier posting is "typeIt4Me". It helps me use a computer with my disabilities. It will substitute any phrase for a chosen abbreviation - I don't know if this is similar to Word but it works whenever I type anything.

So, for example, if I type "\ny", the computer replaces it with "My very best wishes for a Happy, Healthy, Peaceful, Successful, Prosperous and Stress-free New Year." and if I type "\\\" it enters my full name.

I use the "\" character to prefix my selected abbreviations on the basis that it rarely is used in ordinary text.

I have been using it as long as I've been diagnosed with bicipital and supraspinatus tendinitis. I have tried voice recognition software but - even after extensive training - it withs pretty useless.

As far as I know there's no voice recognition software that will work with my Mac, so TypeIt4Me facilitates communication.

The chap who wrote it lives in South East London and responds promptly to queries. I have yet to meet anybody who can write the same about Microsoft!

My arm and shoulder now hurt so if anybody wants further explanation, send me a UK telephone number and I'll ring you.

Arc told me that the flats on the Arbor were 33mm and I have modified an inexpensive spanner to fit.

If I had wrecked the spanner, the other end would still be useful for the ER16 Collet holder on my lathe.

I posted the original message in case other subscribers could benefit from what I deem to be a quick solution to a problem.

It's interesting to know that certain size Whitworth or BSF spanner will fit but little help if one doesn't own one that size.

It capitalises "spacenotspace"

If there's another character immediately adjacent, then there's no capitalisation.

I have already undertaken to try to remember to reverse capitalisation and apologised if fail to remember

Both my GP and a Consultant orthopaedic surgeon have strongly advised me to minimise computer use as a response to a physiological problem about which I have consulted them. I can just about cope (by using specialist software) with brief communications such as this.

PS May I ask MCB to stop capitalising the word 'not' in posts? Nothing wrong with appropriate emphasis, but unnecessary capitals on the Internet cause posts to come across as ENRAGED, losing sympathy and maybe altering the meaning. I'm not really enraged, but it's irritating to read NOT and have to decide if it's a Declaration of War, or innocent!

My computer automatically capitalises "not" for the avoidance of doubt.

It emphasises the meaning where without "not" the negativity of the statement might missed or ignored.

But I will try to help Dave and others by changing the relevant word back to lower case when I remember.

Apologies in advance to any reader who is upset or enraged.

I like DIN 894 single ended spanners for specific uses like this. They are cheaper than double ended or combination spanners and easier on the hands when using them. I have a 36mm one for use with my ER32 collet holder and they are available in 32mm and 34mm a/f as well. I don't think I have seen a 33mm one.

Martin C

My ER32 Collet holder has little recesses rather than a hexagonal nut.

My ER16 Collect holder on my lathe has hexagonal nuts.

I'm getting used to the new wrench having filed the end spigots to fit.
