A few years ago I would have said a selection of FC3 'throwaway' cutters of various sizes.

Now I mostly use cutters of ~10mm in various materials and styles. 11mm ones seem to be easy to pick up cheap at shows

The FC3 cutters are useful though, for example a 1/8" or 3mm one will be invaluable for the slots in the back of your slide valve and a 3/16" or 1/4" one for the little 'pockets' at the ends of the cylinder steam passages. Because they are short they tend to survive better than normal ones and the design allows them to plunge and cut to width like a slot drill, but the extra flute lets you cut a bit faster like an end mill.

Doubletop,

I used to buy a fair bit from CTC, when he shipped direct from China, but since he was ( I think ) forced to do business from Europe, I've found the postage costs negate any savings previously made, at least on small orders.

John

I found the postage a little dear but when it turned up 48 hrs later and fully insured i didn't mind paying it and it was still cheaper than buying here in OZ .

I haven't used them since they moved a few years back .

Moved? Off their website a few moments ago

We are located at:
Rm13, 13F, World-Wide Ind. Centre, 43-47 Shan Mei Street, Fotan Shatin NT, Hong Kong

The owner Heine Johst could well be located in Europe but the goods come direct from HK, no need to double handle

Pete

Same here; I've bought a set of ER25 collets plus three collet chucks, MT2/3/4, plus various cutters from CTC & cannot complain at all about their quality & price.. usual disclaimer applies.

George.
