Hmm. If you ask me all this proves is that Australia is 30 years behind the UK... >ducks< Neil We must be catching up then. We don't want to get too close ! 30 yrs is just about right as our politicians use this gap to see what traps the UK fall into - it takes them about that long to squabble amongst themselves , add a new tax for it along with several pay rises for themselves just so then they ensure can we fall into the same trap! |

1468 forum posts 3 photos | Yep ! And as far as i'm concerned real Aussie rock stopped in the 80's and back in black is at the top of the list ! R.I.P George young . We can be world leaders one minute and dead last the next ! We have a monumental stuff up going on with broadband service ( nationoal broadband service ) it is no where near being finishe is billions over budget and already old technology - the kiwis went optical which is much faster but more expensive ,we went cable and can't even get that right ! So the government thinks about taxing wireless broadband to pay for its stuff up and by the time its up and running it will be slower then mobile broadband ! - Dead last ! On the other hand i was watching a programme yesterday about cochlea implants that were invented and designed here in OZ , They now have implants that connect via bluetooth to mobile phones and other devices without the need for external adaptors - World leader

Wasn't aware that the cochlear implants were researched in NZ, the major companies that produce them now appear to be French and American. Dave |

Holden also known in other countries as Opal, Chevy GM still used parts made all around the world much like every other manufacturer. Is all about the mighty $$$$$ both Ford and Holden as well as Mitsubishi & Toyota had billions of tax dollars handed over only to see excecs and CEO's profit more. During the late 60's Millions was given to R&D fuel saving to the big two to compete with the likes of BMC's 40mpg nothing ever became of it. Oh sorry they Unions and Government of the day got rid of BMC. Ok so the failed P76 didn't help matters. |

![]() 7881 forum posts 397 photos | You forgot the pie floater. Invented in Adelaide, so they claim. (And they are welcome to it.) For the uninitiated, a pie floater is a meat pie dropped in a large bowl of thick pea soup and slathered in tomato sauce. Usually served in roadside mobile kitchens about pub closing time. Just the ticket after a big night out. I missed out on the Aussie rock mainstream as I spent the 80s in America. When I came home, Aussie radio stations were still playing the hits of the 70s, which was quaint. Most other things were like stepping back into the 1960s after getting used to the US. Shops closed on Sundays and 5pm week days? WTH? I got money and and I can't spend it? We ran out of food the first Christmas/New Year in Adelaide as my American wife did not expect local shops to close for two weeks over the holiday period. Something about being unconstitutional or something. And customer service was an as-yet undiscovered art form. Fancy having to get out of your car and go into the bank to make a transaction instead of stopping at the drive through window! Edited By Hopper on 25/10/2017 05:47:28 |
