Thread: Free Speech

Given the history from last year (yes, I do read the Editorials), I'm really not suprised that a little caution was exercised here. In Davids place, I would have done exactly the same. This is not censorship or a 'freedom of spech' issue or anything else - it's simply commercial caution.

We live in an age of litigation, ambulance chasers and other blights that were unknown in this Country just 10-15 years ago. Fear of legal action is the reason many ME Society's have taken Limited Company status after all.

There are many ways to check weaher conditions (Web, TV, Radio) - so I don't see this as a real problem for the Gentleman - but I'm sure MHS don't want any more agrevation in this area - so let's be a bit more understanding and get this Forum back to Model Engineering please.

Regards, IanT

You may be correct in most of what you say but I can assure you that the best way of checking the weather situation at a specific place is to converse with someone who is actually there.

Anyway I will withdraw having stated what happened to me for those interested.

Part 2
That was it !!
Next time I logged on David has posted "This thread has been Moderated" and so I posted "Why is that David". That post then got deleted.
I guess there is a slim possibility that someone posted something offensive after me, but why not just delete that and allow us to discuss the travel situation.
If I do go Sunday and get involved in a fender bender I may have to sue him for depriving me of a traffic warning

Hi gentlemen
Could I ask what this is all about as have been stuck somewhelre else

thanks

Bob

Hi Bob

I'm a "victim" of the moderation.
What happened was I was planning to drive down Friday from Norfolk to the show but at 7am Friday decided not to risk it.
One of my passengers is 70 ish and not in great shape, so there was an extra risk.
So naturally I asked if anyone could say what the weather was like in the area.
Someone came back and said the roads were ok but there was a very light snowfall.
I said something along the lines of "great but the problem is getting down to the area safely from Norfolk"
I then said I would not go that day, but would appreciate an update towards evening if possible, thinking Saturday maybe ok.

Chris.

When the thread was "Moderated" I asked a simple question "Why is that" thinking an argument had broken out following my post about my decision not to drive.
That then got deleted, a simple question !!
David you are making a mistake imho.
Thread: What lathe tools

Hi Chris,

Try this reference for an explanation of both ISO and ANSI designations for defining standard carbide inserts,

As a hobbyist now I must admit that I tend to stick with good HSS tools and prefer it for parting. If you have low speeds on your machine large diameter parting is no problem, they arise when the diameter becomes small and the tendency is for the tool to submarine and be pulled into the work when using a front mounted tool.

Terry

I must admit that I get better results from HSS but I have always put that down to user error. blush

When you say it takes 16mm tools, I assume that's 16mm and with the tip at centre height? Many holders will allow big tools to be clamped in place but not necessarily low enough.

Thanks for the replies.

Yes a 16mm should bring the cutter right on the center line I am told.

I will check it before I go though.

Hi guys
I am off to the show at Ali Pally at the end of the week and one of the things I'm looking for is a set of lathe tools.
My tool post will take 16mm square tools but do I need to go that large ?
Any recommendations for general workshop use.

Thread: universal grinder, drill sharpening instructions
09/01/2013 17:57:09
Posted by David Ford 3 on 07/01/2013 13:19:52:

Hi, I have a universal grinder similar to the Warco machine. I want to sharpen some drills on this machine, but, the instructions are completely useless, virtually unreadable and do not bear any relationship to the photos in the instructions. I have checked on You Tube but there is nothing on this subject relating to the universal grinder.

Have any of you nice guys any experience of this machine, or have managed to work out the instructions.

Many thanks,

Dave

I had the same issue with all my Warco equipment and was advised to try thr Grizzly Macjhine tools site, they have a frre download section and the equipment is very very similar, maybe they do a grinder too.

Hi Gray,

Thanks for the reply. I do realise that Emco accessories can take some time, hence my patience to date. However as the item was supposedly in stock when I ordered it, and as I no longer require it 11 months later, I have been trying to cancel the order. Instead requesting a different item or a refund. Some sign of life from them would be encouraging.

Clive

Clive if you would like to message me your name etc and some details I will try and call them for you tomorrow if it helps

I ordered a selection of metals from M-Machine and phoned through the debit card details at 2pm and the items arrived at 10am the next day.

They could not be quicker and I recomend them for service.

I am in no way associated with M-Machine and just a satisfied customer.

That is what I understood on a Mill but this applies to a Lathe so I'm lost a bit

X = Cross slide

Z0 = Saddle Z1 = Compound slide

Thanks Nigel
