I think everyone dreams of getting energy independent nowadays but its only a dream for most people Excess energy in an organised system could be used for mass transport and heating/cooling All the most successful economies are still heavy coal users Investing in energy efficiency is still a new financial discipline requiring proper real world expertise Edited By Ady1 on 19/12/2022 19:11:46 |

I've used the ebay 10mm ones over the years and they are extremely fragile If you look at them the wrong way they break in half, but they still work fine Edited By Ady1 on 18/12/2022 10:59:38 |

Did The Model Engineer ever do a wood burning stove build? Something with good updraft and a tightly coiled flue to maximise the amount of heat transfer before allowing the smoke to belch out into the back garden and down the street |

If I was going to fix things I would start with the BMA and dump the lot of them Cuba has 9 doctors per 1000 people UK has 2.5 doctors per 1000 people The BMA is the core of the problem and they have created a crippling shortage of medical professionals A new setup, the UKMA, for people who want to be doctors and help society and leave the BMA to fester in a corner as bait for the politicals and moneygrabbers Edited By Ady1 on 17/12/2022 10:55:58 |

He should be in a wheelchair now IMO, before something gets badly broken The big guys always struggle with old age, it's great when you're young but it's the little skinny runty guys who thrive in old age, (I used to do residential nursing home stuff) I'm managing my own folks too ATM, but there's 3 of us to spread the load about edit: back to the thread Look for any care homes closing down locally, the increase in care costs means there will be closures and that means spare equipment looking for a good home Another possibility, a modified car engine hoist? If it will run on your computer Designspark Mechanical is very good for basic widgets mouse keyboard controls are pretty easy, a 5 button/1 wheel mouse is best I'm afraid you will have to download a few of these things before you find one you like, unless you get lucky While it's quite advanced I really can't be bothered with the learning curve but it's useful for drawing simple parts in 3D, letting me visualise any snarlups and see closer tolerances Edited By Ady1 on 14/12/2022 10:35:01 |

Thread: Drummond M on ebay |

If you do move one of these and have to dismantle it take heed of Tonys advice The motor countershaft section needs support when being removed I had to use a trolley jack to support it when reassembling on my own ------------------------------- http://www.lathes.co.uk/drummond-m-type-post-1924/ Should you have to remove or replace the countershaft from one of these stands, find some help. The unit, especially when fitted with the original motor, is very heavy and hinged around a triangular cast-iron plate at its base; if the unit is allowed to swing downwards with any force this plate will be snapped in two. ------------------------ |

This looks about as good as it gets if you want one The motor may not have a reversing switch edit: There's also a wartime S Bend knocking about if someone wants a project Plus a pretty mental Drummond round bed why do these things always appear with xmas a week away...?? And they've put the UK coal generators on standby... lol Thank goodness our great leaders destroyed our industrial base in Britain otherwise we would have needed lots of coal generators to meet demand Edited By Ady1 on 12/12/2022 10:21:05 |
