This is an early example of a tank which had been lightly pickled, never could get rid of the hint of pink

I absolutely do not put brass into the pickling tank. The pink 'residue' isnt a residue at all, its the inactive copper left over when the Zinc has been removed. The only way to get it back to colour is to abrade the Copper layer away until you hit the brass underneath. I tried every way to avoid this but found none - citric acid does the same as other acids, it just takes a lot longer. All of our brass products are now de-scaled by hand. If anyone has a genuine proven alternative I will be the first to embrace it as I hate brass dust!

Ive seen your gears Dan - good work. I note that you were running with ABS. I tried and it eas a total failure but now ger great results on PLA at very 'loose' setting of 0.3 layer, 10% fill and 205 deg, running at 80mm/s.....i think it runs well because theere is less heat store...keep posting!

a mate of mine just got the same exact 10k paid into his company account but it only applies if you are in the(might get this a bit wroong) rated reduction scheme...alas we are not so nothing for us.

I have no idea about its real output but I bought three of these about six months ago, 3d printed a charging station and between my phone, wifes phone and several tablets they are in constant use. So far they have proven invaluable. Never needed the torch until last weekend when we went in the loft, had all three on for over an hour with no sign of any dimming. Great product for the money.

Thats a boiler photographed three years ago...uploaded wrong photo but same soldering, we use different burners and pressure gauge syphons now....just in case anyone notices!

It needs to be a tightish push fit. If it isnt then when you apply heat to a boiler of this diameter the shell will expand a lot quicker than the plate and the gap is too big. This wasnt a problem when people used to rivet and solder. On bigger loco boilers I use rivets at a few key points to stop things moving and then remove them when completed. This is one I completed over the weekend but sadly Tim cant come and collect it right now.

I have the drawing paid for and on order from Blackgates but need the overall rough dims for some CAD set out drawings (Jacquie from BG would confirm this so not cheating on copyright as have paid for drawing). Does anyone have a copy or able to give me the key dims? Thanks all. Just trying to keep my sanity!

If its not already patented it should be! Im going to 3d print one, will relieve a bit of marital stress!!

I see many UK online suppliers list LG2 and SAE 660 as one and the same item, when they clearly and definately are not. Given the general low stresses that our hobby made steam engines usually encounter is it worth discerning between the merrits of both or is it a case that we would never notice the difference? My application is main bearings, oil lubricatedon a 1/2" crank at under 500 rpm. Advice please?

easy to answer, your flux is burning out before the silver solder is applied. Use tenicity flux and problem should go away - you might be offering too much heat and 'burning' the metal, but its classic flux burn

As a hobby project (as well as the 1:6 ratio WW2 Tank build!) im making a quite large Compound Stationary engine. I need some biggish lumps of cast (hate ali so not using it) for the base and cylinders, roughly a 6 inch cube would do. Before goung to a foundry and having things made for me I wanted to see if anywhere sold these things off the shelf. I can get ingots but thats no use to me. Any suggestions please?

My big lathe is on blocks of wood, worked well for damping and vibration and its still in the same place as when we put it there.

Straight out of Uni I worked as a biologist for rentokill, if all else failed we used white unscented soap as bait. It will sit for many months without going bad and mice and rats love it.
