hi managed to aquire a boiler for my project but is fitted with 2 TOP FEED clacks and not the usual side mounted will this be a major prob as i have read of this postion being used in full size boilers on the net its a marine style boiler if that helps.

also roughly how do you work out pump size and injector size im guessing the injector you just turn on as required and im planning on using a modifyed hand pump as an axle pump plumbed straight up to one off the clacks

Fit a tube to the boiler side of teh clack valve so it takes the water down below water level.

You will need to work out the amount of steam you are likely to use and work back from there as far as pump and injector, but look at other traction engines of similar size to see what they use to make sure you ar ein the right ball park. Without knowing the cylinder size, stroke, rate of work, boiler size then its hard for anyone here to give a definate answer.

hi jason do you mean a tube on the inside of the boiler so that it then deposits the water below water line?

Yes, I'd fit it to the actual valve so rather than comming straight out teh valve and into the steam space it gets taken to lower down in the boiler

why? It doesn't make any difference to steam raising whether you put it in under water or just let it fall through the steamspace
