I had the same problem a few years ago. The Honeywell helpline were great with suggesting a replaciment and reworking the wiring for it. |
Thread: UK State Pension |
26/09/2022 12:46:32 |
My old man always said the pension money would run out one day and insisted I had a private pension and paid any extra into any state enhancements. Was also lucky in having a good accountants to advise me over the years. I worked from 16 to 65, so got the full state pension plus the added extras, which now pay me an extra £114 a week, well worth having in these very difficult times. Incidentally, i get my pension paid weekly, something they keep a bit quiet about. |

By no means an expert, but what about using a rotary table on a mill, or CNC to do the job? I normally make things out of acrylic and other plastics (mainly because I can get offcuts FOC from my ex place of work!) My Siieg SX2.7 makes short work of maching 12mm aluminium bar, and my little 3018 CNC router cuts plastics up to 19mm easily, just takes a while. |

I recently bought 10 x 3 metre lengths of slotted angle for £120, including a pack of bolts and 3 terminal blocks (to take it to the £120 carriage paid deal!) They were for another purpose, but it did cross my mind that they would be great for a bench as well. |
Thread: Broadband woes |

We had a similar experience in June, our BT had gone up to £62 month, my son was paying £25 month for the basic service, But I could not have that deal! There was a new provider fitting out, offering £25 month plus various phone packages, so we signed up. The salesman failed to mention that it was not due to live until the end of this month, we would have been without any service for 3 months. My daughter suggested I tried Sky, and I have to say I was impressed, they sorted out some issues, and I got a 35Mb package for £25, plus £8 for unlimited phone calls, (Just had to plug the phone into the router, as simple as that) and they threw in 200 free satellite TV channels (but not the Sky channels, thy are extra!) Its running at 38Mb at the moment. Can't see me changing in 18 months time unless the price rockets. |
Thread: Tiny woodscrews (not exactly engineering...) |

I have a small quantity of brass RH wood screws, at least 30 years old! Bit bigger than your dimensions, screw length is about 9.5mm long, 2.1mm diameter. Overall length 11.2mm and head diameter 3.9mm. They are all mixed up with other sizes, but depending on how many you need I can count them if they are of any use! |

My sons now run the family company, and they use an awful lot of plastics. and have seen the prices soar over the last 2 years. The have negotiated a new deal with a UK based American company, for US produced plastics cheaper than any from mainland Europe. They are pretty convinced that some of the rises of unjustified! |

Could it mean that there is still power to the motor, but locking it in the current position? Without power some steppers turn reasonably freely. |

Strange suggestion, but source from old furniture? Recently need some hardwood to repair our front door, and my daughters unwanted 65 year old oak table has given me a good supply of well seasoned oak. It was made of 24mm x75mm and 24mm x 96 mm pieces, and is proving very usefull! |
Thread: unknown thread of this tap |
29/01/2022 11:10:24 |
As an ironmonger in the sixties or seventies Draper were selling of mixed lots of 100 taps, ex WD and by UK and USA makers, my cousin and I bagged the best ones for ourselves, but there were some very odd sizes and threads in the assortments. I still have a few, a 1/2"and 3/4" still in use for my garden irrigation projects! So there a possibilty It may be for a milatary purpose. |
Thread: 'Vision aid magnifying glasses', any good? |
20/01/2022 11:08:16 |
Mine is a £20 set from Amazon, they have been a godsend for close up work, although I do very little now. In March 2020 I woke up unable to focus my eyes, long story but had an 'Eye stroke' and was diagnosed with severe double vision. Rectified by stick on prism lenses on my glasses to start, then after 6 months got proper prism glasses. Had to hand in my driving licence, although I had already decided not to renew it when I was 82. I do struggle now, 3 seperate pairs of glasses to cope with reading, long distance and pair of bifocals for using my laptop and watching telly. Needless to say, I never have the right pair on! |

At work they use a 1990's Gerber Dimension CNC router with a Perske high speed motor to cut it, using a HS cutter, very little cleaning up required afterwards. Also used with a V cutter through the top layer and core for bending purposes. For general straight cutting they use a DeWalt table saw with a fine TC blade. |

On a lighthearted note, working in a country ironmongers in the 50's, we often got new apprentices coming into the shop asking for the like of glass hammers, long rests, post holes, sparks for grinders and others items I have fogotten over the years! |

My late FIL waa an upper turrent gunner in a RAF B17 bomber, Pretty sure he told us he had an electrically heated suit, maybe that will be the answer. Loved the seat warmer in my car when I could drive, but an eye stroke a couple of years ago put an end to my driving. |
