If the recently announced restrictions are as announced. .TEMPORARY. .pending investigation. .well. .thats at least sensible.
My doubt is the temporary bit.

Also..when you attend such display...you might or might not accept risk. ( see the small print on your ticket)..people using a public highway..were mostly un involved. .and I doubt that risk were covered by the shows insurance.
Thread: Glass hard Gauge plate?
24/08/2015 18:10:27
A local boat builder uses / used ( now deceased ) glass as scraper..now thats brittle.
But defo sharp and hard..
From my reading scrapers "should" be as hard as possible ( if its difficult to sharpen with file then thats about hard enough).
I use hss hack saw blades ( 1/8" thick ones from power saw)..as they say..takes an awful edge but holds it forever.

Daft question..do you need to trouble the extra signals..
Is the composite out ok without additional control?

Ok..back to the basic engineering..in a dive bell mode..the bell is at no pressure( across wall) ..if the bottom is open and air was at any pressure..the level woukd rise or fall to equalise.
24/08/2015 17:39:54
Just a steading thought.

Submarine "escape" hoods were pretty much just that..a rubberised canvas hood filled with air bled in from a total loss system...it basically over flows out the bottom. ..air is basically supplied freely in the hood..like a classic diving suit...
Extend this and you have a submersible. .
Neglecting the controlled buoyancy. .pressure /flow regulation...propulsion. ..

Think diving bell ..
Before any form of pressurised breathing is attemped...do a scuba course..and learn some of the dive medicine. .

Fwiw...I would put a left hand lead on tool. ..tends to deflect tool to bar end where it is supported.added bonus. .reduces distortion in thin parts..
Tool like \ rather than / or even -..about 0.5 mm on a typical eigth inch blade...
Use the opposite if you want the part pip free but at risk of effecting part

Thread: Any air experts? air ammeter needed
21/08/2015 22:16:45
Can only offer what I would have done.
.
If a leak can be "heard".. or otherwise detected..
Isolate chunks till leak goes away.

Thusly your need for a flow meter. ..

Now the u/s detector might be steep but really is this so expensive in comparison to three expensive guys waiting round....
What I would have done was isolate a bay at a time and Isolate the culprit.

Isolate and watch pressure drop...think RC discharge. ..the rate of pressure drop will indicate consumption
...either way you are needing to isolate and monitor. .
Thread: Straightening stainless steel rod/wire
18/08/2015 18:15:01
For ductile wire...stainless, nicrome, and even copper...three roller- straightners work..
Two rollers on commen line..third bewteen the others but offset by radius of roller..thus wire has to wriggle through ...this de kinks very well...and as wire gets straighter..the offset is increases to zero wriggle...

Also grabing one end and pulling other can help..but never seems to reduce( " increase" )bend radius to zero ( 1/0)

Thread: Speedometer Error

Of course if the licence is so valuable or important ...drive slower..(.cause a moving road block.uunnecessary overtaking..etc.)..mmm guess there is no one answer
16/08/2015 14:21:50
I for one would like to know if anyone has personal knowledge of a successful defense challenging the enforcement instruments calibration. .bearing in mind the "value" of a driving license. ..

Always wondered if the tripod laser measure setups.. ( esp the neighbour hood watch ones) are accurate. .with regard to the above mentioned geometry.

As to radar doppler rigs..I built a project at college to "overwhelm" such with arbitary signal
Of selectable speed..if you see what I mean. ...fun..more if I had had a car!
16/08/2015 12:30:40
Mm.
True speed..relative to what?.

What latitude?.
what altitude.
What heading?
If we consider just relative to road ..for simplicity. .then is it the COMPONENT of the vehicle speed parallel to the carriage way or towards ( or away from )the observer?...
Take an extreem
A device measures approach speed at 45 degrees to road... will it correctly read the speed along the road?
And if the angle is now 30 degrees.?
.thus the geometry of the "observation" is critical.

You could of course use a straight edge and a set square..to divide a given length into n equal parts...
But then again cad does do neat lettering
Thread: removing a sleeve from a blind hole.
08/08/2015 21:42:57
The file stroke thing....
Just a single stroke to add an air bleed to cotter if it fits "too" well in the blind hole..you will know if too good ..when cotter feels "springy" in the blind hole. .
A stroke. .smallest cut ..to provide a simple flat..air..leak..letting air in.
08/08/2015 19:43:56
Btw..you seem triumphant that there was no anti rotation key.. .
It was just a suggestion that these are sometimes used so check that this isn't the case.
08/08/2015 19:39:28
Also maybe add say a file stroke to prevent hydraulic lock?
Thread: Arduino, Genuino ... or what Clone ?
08/08/2015 19:36:07
Oh..and there is the FTDI chip fiasco...
Where a manufacture ALEDGEDLY ..rewrote their driver to 'brick'..bootleg chips.....
to much negative publicity.

The schematic files and an implementation of layout are published.
So unless a given supplier wishes to tweek the build. .These are interchangeable.
Given that the parts are to spec.

Now with nano's there are cheap implementations using substitute components which as I said use a different driver.. ( usb).
There have also been cases where the bootloader hasn't been loaded..which for the unprepared is a pain..
..
Frankly once I have found a reliable supplier of reliable boards I stick with them until...
