Thread: Is it true that our access to the digital archive going to disappear?
10/07/2013 11:00:42

the only reason i subscribed was to get access to the digital versions

if that access ends then my subscription will also end soon after and i will take to reading the magazine stood in Smiths with the rest of them......

and now, having just gone and checked the digital issues/online archive pages again, i find that i am now unable to access any of the digital issues at all !!

Edited By Ziggar on 02/07/2013 11:52:16

They are working for me.

IanP

panic over

seems it was a small browser issue. now all working fine again.

02/07/2013 11:51:46

digital issues have been relabeled as 'online archive'
not really difficult to work out.......

and now, having just gone and checked the digital issues/online archive pages again, i find that i am now unable to access any of the digital issues at all !!

i get the page of the thumbnails as usual but clicking on any of them results in absolutely nothing at all happening.

is this some sort of punishment for daring to ask what is happening ? or is it some "glitch" introduced with this new '"relaunch"

i see nothing special or different with the 'digital' issues.....

Thread: ML7 colour
02/06/2013 18:46:44

if you order something from the new myford website they will send whatever it is you order in a little plastic bag with a nice sticker very similar in size and design to the original Myford sticker. peel it off carefully and use that.

again, thats what i did, being the cheapskate that wasnt gonna pay a tenner for a sticker that i would never loook at again. and it doesnt bother me in the slightest that its not 'original'. its still a colourful sticker that looks at a quick glanze to be the right one.

ps.
and this is where i got the paint from. http://tinyurl.com/m567hrc

painted mine using 'myford grey' from a firm on ebay

probably and most likely the wrong colour. but i dont really care. it had previously been repainted by the previous owner using hammerite black with a touch of white mixed in

it now looks 100% better than it did before and right or wrong colour, i like it. and thats what matters most....

and like you, ive seen them all colours, and i mean ML7s only, not all models which i know are different colours anyway.

Thread: Motors to drive tools
14/05/2013 20:17:35

i have one of these kennedy saws which i use for cutting small bits and pieces which the bigger bandsaw is too large for

i have a flat belt, rightly or wrongly, running directly on the motor spindle and a 6 inch plywood drive wheel [cos i didnt have any ali there big enough to make a flywheel]
works nicely, runs nice and slowly, and seems to be the right speed for the machine. I have the original hoover motor on mine.

nothing complicated
works as expected
every expense spared

Thread: HAROLD halls TOOL REST
04/05/2013 11:26:59

if you actually read the text included with the drawings/plans then it is all explained quite clearly

but you DO have to read the text

i made this rest as one of my very first projects with absolutely no experience and having only owned a small lathe and mill for a matter of weeks. everything went acording to plan and 'it all works' just fine because i read the text along with the plans, and didnt just jump into making the rest without doing the reading first. That is how the book is written to be used.

read the text with the plans and it will all work out just fine

Thread: Conversion Chart
26/03/2013 19:03:45

i dont want to be paying for anything i that i can already get from the internet with a little time spent searching. if all these charts are going to be taking content away from the magazine that i pay for then im not interested in any way.

im quite happy to accept them as a free pullout in ADDITION to the regular content, which is what i thought we were all talking about in the first place, but NOT as a replacement for regular content.

Schaffold tube? and bushes?

got to agree with this

find some scaffolders iin the area and give them a couple of quid for a length appropriate to your needs

then bush it up to your hearts content
jobs a good'un

most scaffold tubes are 47mm and galvonised

there are _many_ websites and webpages dedicated to giving you the needed tapping sizes if you use Google to search for them

asking a Mac user to install anything MS on their machine is like asking a vegatarian to chomp down on a chicken sandwich .....

probably the main reasoon for swapping from a PC to a Mac is to get away from MS

Thread: Alibre 11.2
29/12/2012 18:58:15

on a lot of forums, asking for a code to bypass paying for a leading piece of software would lead to an instant banning of the member that asked. No matter what the 'excuse' or reasoning. It seems to be OK here though.

always handy to remember..........

Thread: Offline copies

I think it may help most of the UK readers too who have no idea what this 'Smiths method' actually is.

The whole 'digital subscription' regime needs overhauling as far as im concerned. The viewing quality is absolutely pathetic and harkens back to something akin to the 90's. The print quality and overall user friendliness of it all leaves much to be desired. And the digital price. Well that needs at least cutting in half.
