Thread: Unimat 3 saddle gibs |

I'm with Graham on this one, you can turn the plates around 180 degrees to a new non worked face, then when it needs tightening again turn it over and before you sell it turn it around again, the only worn part is around 3mm wide at the edge. As said the same material was used on all Emco 5 manual and cnc lathes, link to video showing the easy method of access to the Z plates on a cnc 5.

Thread: Coolant pump and VFD |
08/06/2023 13:51:07 |
The coolant pump on my Bantam is 400v 3 phase working voltage but it has been used occasionally for many hours during the last 20 years with the capacitor method of connection to a 240v AC supply. Emgee

Thread: Fitting a Huanyang P2 VFD to a Student 1800 |
03/06/2023 18:41:40 |
Isn't the foot operated brake intended to be used for emergency braking of the spindle so it should be connected into the spindle drive emergency stop circuit, this of course may or may not cause damage to the VFD. If the argument is not to use the method as above then I believe the use of such a device could be termed dangerous and should be avoided for operator safety. Emgee |
Thread: Workshop Lighting |
02/06/2023 20:48:31 |
One updating fluorescents in a factory job I did many years ago was designed by Thorn Lighting who provided an equal mix of leading and lagging PF fittings which they claimed gave unity PF if used in equal numbers of course. Emgee |
Thread: What are these? |
01/06/2023 18:36:58 |
I used the short type in a cross drilled hole in the 5/8" toolholder of a Dore boring and facing head, tool bit secured with a grub screw in the end of the bar, or if the tool is angled to reach the bottom of a blind bore the securing screw was at 90 degrees to the toolbit. Thread: Mild steel rigidity |
24/05/2023 19:32:57 |
Somewhat depends on the weight of items placed on the shelf/bench but 3mm may suffice.

Thread: What did you do today? 2023 |
23/05/2023 10:45:02 |
Cleaned up some parts made for a model engine spinner assembly, collet, backplate and front nut with Titanium stud threaded M8x.75. These are used with the spinner hub type laminated/moulded props on pylon racing engines. Emgee

Thread: to divide a circle |
22/05/2023 19:53:26 |
Hi Michel As long as the divisional accuracy obtained suits your application and it works for you then it is OK, however there are many ways to hold a part and make divisions but not many as simple and low cost as your device.

Thermal cut-out switches were also fitted into the terminal cover, a red coloured push button resets the switch after a cooling off period.

Thread: Warco mills with the control box attached to the head |
16/05/2023 18:58:22 |
I guess it's mounted on the head as it's the closest point to the motor so cabling is at a minimum. It may also be convenient for most tasks until as you say tilt the head. Emgee |
Thread: homemade nickel plating with coins |

Not to hi-jack Celso thread but for a good undestanding of the nickel plating process I found the following Youtube video helpful.

Thread: Dear Uncle Mickeysoft |
14/05/2023 11:41:27 |
I recently used my Adobe reader to open a drawing file, I wanted to rotate the view so went to the rotate arrow only to find it wanted a subscription to allow the function to operate. Downloaded another FOC non Adobe PDF Reader program that has all functions working. Unfortunately I believe this is the way Windows systems will be monitorised over a period of time.

Thread: Further Adventures with the Sieg KX3 & KX1 |
13/05/2023 11:45:08 |
Jason I think those single point cutters are only suitable for a dedicated pitch but can do fine or coarse thread and as you say any diameter. Info below from the linked page, These thread mills are suitable for machining internal metric coarse and fine threads with the same pitch using the same cutter. Emgee

Thread: Quorn Tool and Cutter grinder |
10/05/2023 22:30:36 |
When this post was opened I couldn't see any advantage of a 30 TPI screw for adjustment of the rocking lever, I was not aware of the dual thread rate of the design. However I now see the advantage of the dual rate threads on the arm adjuster if grinding the flutes of milling cutters or machine reamers on the face of a wheel at 90 dgreees to the tool,

I used grease in the quill downfeed via the nipple provided, the table feed box was removed as some gears were missing, never did replace them but used it manually. Emgee |
Thread: Myford Super 7 - electrics/motor |
08/05/2023 11:31:28 |
Can someone explain how any of the many earlier model engineers using Myford 7 lathes with a single phase 1/2 or 3/4 HP motor were able to build such accurate and functional models ?

Chris Important to remember the chuck is screwed onto the spindle so if when fitted with a reversing function careful use is essential, you don't want the chuck coming from the spindle when spinning. Some Myford users have modified the chuck retention so it is more secure, searching the Forum should bring up the post. Emgee

Thread: Quorn Tool and Cutter grinder |
06/05/2023 14:24:29 |
I can't see this change to 30TPI as an improvement, to me it just seems like a way of generating sales for the special tap and die required. Mine is tapped 40 TPI and has division marks for precise amounts of adjustment. Emgee |
Thread: Diesel heater recalls |
02/05/2023 23:11:56 |
My understanding of the rejection report is no suitable installation instructions were provided, not that the heater design was unsuitable or unsafe if installed correctly. Emgee |
Thread: Lathe collet chuck |
01/05/2023 21:11:35 |
Posted by old mart on 01/05/2023 21:03:54:
This lathe uses a camlock spindle and may not have any backplates to attach a flange mount collet chuck. Camlock backplates are available to fit a flanged ER type chuck to, this could then be left as 1 unit so changing between chucks is very simple. Emgee |
