Thread: Insert tip query |
07/05/2016 09:15:19 |
Raymond, not all well known maker inserts have in-built rake of 7deg, various angles are used depending on use, also some are just 90 degrees.(zero rake) Emgee |
Thread: custom big tap needed |
04/05/2016 15:34:22 |
Hi Douglas The threads on the wooden screw done in the thread-box look to be greater than 60 degrees, they could even be 90 degrees which would be the same as the threads on a tap for tapping wood I made some months ago. If they are 90 deg that would explain the TPI errors found. Emgee

Thread: Cross vice backlash |
28/04/2016 09:33:23 |
I also bought a cross-vice from Graham Engineering when I also bought a pedestal drill. The drill has been used regularly over the last 30 odd years and is still an accurate tool. The cross vice is used in the same way as Lambton, for accurate positioning of workpieces to drill marked out holes, mine may be a later model than Lanbton's as it already had the axis locks fitted as purchased. I use a metering device called Owl, provides all the info you need, they were sold on special offer terms a few years ago but the link below gives a starting point for full info. Emgee |
Thread: which plastic rod |
25/04/2016 13:43:21 |
Hi Matthew Are the boats to be used on water or just scale static models ? If building an early sailing ship then wood will be most appropriate to original materials, you could also use wood for the metal parts with addition of some paint to disguise the material. Emgee

Thread: Single / three phase motor |
24/04/2016 20:55:02 |
John Says Ph 1 on the 2nd line from right on the right label. Ph 3 on the left hand label so believe it can be used single or 3 phase. The kW output stated seems to confirm this also. Emgee |
Thread: which plastic rod |
24/04/2016 20:48:23 |
Hi Matthew I take it you just want to do some practise turning as you don't state any purpose. Try Delrin, or similar, most acetal rods are easy to turn and you will get a good finish. As always you do need to have a sharp tool for best results. HSS is more than adequate if ground with good clearance angles but with a radiused tip. Emgee |
Thread: Are we all infringing this patent? |
24/04/2016 09:14:14 |
The practise of mould making by cnc machines was being done way before this patent was lodged, it also states "receiving a file from a customer" so any all in house method would not infringe the patent. It is everyday practise now to make moulds for laminated fuselages and wings to produce highly stressed model aircraft, these are cut by cnc machines. This is not ME as understood on this forum, we seem to draw a line between aeromodelling and model engineering. I agree with Bob that the patent is no doubt lodged in the hope that one day it can be used to sue some wealthy company, I fail to understand why the patent was accepted when such practises had been used for years prior to the lodge date. Thread: Duralium?? |
22/04/2016 13:40:30 |
My understanding is that if built in the UK to comply with the CAA regarding models above 7kg the model will need to have inspections by a qualified person during construction stages, the inspections are made to confirm the integrity of the design and materials used and the standard of workmanship. Further details can be found on the Large Model Association (LMA) web pages. Perhaps Christopher can advise on the specific use for the 16swg sheet.

Christopher, Look for HE15 or 2014. Also consider using carbon fibre laminate, it's lighter and stronger. Emgee |
Thread: CES Change of Owner |
20/04/2016 21:27:35 |
I hope the former owners of CES who it seems have decided to take early retirement can now enjoy a less stressful way of life. Like many I have always received good service from CES and hope the new owners provide the same service, prices charged of course may determine their success or failure. Emgee |

Thread: Yahoo problems |
15/04/2016 09:19:06 |
I am a moderator on one of the Yahoo groups that doesn't have too much traffic. I agree since the changes were made the site does not function as well as with the older system. I haven't experienced difficulty in changing member status for posting and receiving mail etc. My biggest difficulty is viewing pictures in the Photo section, before you viewed 1 album at a time, now they are all loading at the same time and this makes the screen a muddle and difficult to view exactly what you want. My biggest problem is nearly every visit my computer freezes, ctl-alt-del brings me back to screen choices. I am using Vista and Firefox. Emgee |

Thread: Jasons tips |

Muzzer H13 denotes recommended for non-ferrous as does H13A, H10 and H10A. Sandvik use this code for turning and milling inserts suitable for non-ferrous which also includes titanium. The last 2 numbers in the code denote tip radius, as far as I can see thats in 02, 04, 08 rads, where did you get the 03 code ? Emgee Edited By Emgee on 07/04/2016 14:23:14 Edited By Emgee on 07/04/2016 14:25:01 |
07/04/2016 10:58:36 |
As stated earlier H13A is the recommended grade for non ferrous materials, H10 has a finer grain structure and is also recommended for non ferrous and plastic materials, not all ground inserts have a polished surface, chip breaking will also be dependent on the grade of aluminium being cut, some are stringy whatever grade of insert or tip shape is used. Agree BUE can be a problem if no lubricant used. Emgee Edited By Emgee on 07/04/2016 11:28:28 |
