Thread: Minilor FR1 |

Hi Trevor, I have a Minilor TR1 which I am stripping down and rebuilding. It is the lathe collet chuck that accepts ER25s. The lathe spindle is bored to about 13mm. Steve is spot on with the FR1 description.

'... Having first removed the chuck and arbor from the machine using a suitable drift. |

Hi,
There is usually a hole through the centre line of the chuck - insert a suitable length of round steel and give this a sharp tap with a hammer... this should remove the arbor from the chuck body...If it does not replace the chuck and arbor with a new quality arbor and Rohm or Jacobs chuck.

I am about to start building Netta in 5"g. I have the plans and the original ME construction articles from the mid 1950's. This will be my first model so I would appreciate any advice (errors on the plans etc) from those have built it. Many thanks MCW |
Thread: Drill press advice? |
19/03/2012 13:14:47 |
I bought a far eastern import - one of the better ones from Taiwan - but.... 1) Throw the chuck in the bin where it belonged and replaced it with a high quality one. 2) The quill diameter was about 10 thou smaller than the housing bore. Solved this with a cylinder of 5 thou shim brass insert into the bore. Result no play. It is know OK for general work but for accurate drilling I use my VMB. MCW

John,
You have hit the nail on the head - could also add shortage of people with the required skills which is related to lack of investment in the future.
