I knew I'd seen that tool before http://www.homemodelenginemachinist.com/showthread.php?t=22458&highlight=tangential Very nicely made. |
Thread: How do I tell stainless steel from silver steel ? |
29/08/2014 11:53:24 |
If you can spare a bit, heat an end of one piece to cherry red and dunk it in cold water. If its too hard to file, its silver steel. If you can,its stainless. I think Jason's suggestion of length would be the best non destructive way of telling. |
Thread: lever action chuck ? |

Is it one of these? http://www.lathes.co.uk/myfordcapstan/ Used for repetition work where every piece is the same size. don't know what else it will fit but I would have thought it's a valuable item, especially if its got the M word on it. |

Neil, yes calling in office hours. I called 5 times last week and listened to that nice lady and then a nice man. They encourage me to hold but after 5 or 6 minutes I get fed up. Should I try 10 minutes next time ?? John |

It says you can 'upgrade'. Problem is no one ever answers the phone and it doesn't recognise my subscription number when I try to do it on line ??? |

Hello John I am sorry at this point in time I do not have a Video of Emma-Victoria running on the track. I did issue M.E. with a number of still pictures taken at the track with the loco carrying passengers, perhaps these may be included with my article to let you see that the loco does run very well. I am not one for doing a lot of camera work, but if the opportunity arises to make a Video in the future I will do so. Cheers Henry Thanks Henry .. John |

Neil, if the job can be done I'll willingly do a short piece for you. Rik I hope so. I've got the same chuck and would find that mod very useful for mounting on the RT..John

Thanks Henry for sorting that. Any chance of a video of her running? John |

Thank you Julian, Most helpful. Will consider the superheater options...John. |

Julian, Thanks for your reply.Don't know if I explained well enough but your method of starting a thread and then soldering,is that for the small holes where the studs go in? Suppose that would include the holes in all the other bushes.Shame I've got them all made and tapped now. I think I'll make some for the fire door as I can't bear the thought of drilling holes in a pressure tested boiler ... Wishful thinking, assuming it will hold water when I get it done. As for boiler inspectors,I'm struggling a bit as the club I joined last year expect their members to be hands on.Because I work til 7pm I never got to any meetings and my membership has lapsed. Hopefully sort that out soon. Mike, You are a bit ahead of me as I still need a few more bits to complete to make up the boiler kit. I've jumped ahead a bit ahead and left the chassis at the pump stage for now. If I manage to get the boiler done and watertight it will encourage me to get the rest done. Keep in touch ... Photos, photos, photos. John |

You lads are starting to worry me now... I've just spent quite a bit of hard earned on copper, bronze and silver for this boiler. At the moment I,m still slogging away at making the formers. I have a question about fire door bushes.None are shown and I've been told they are now a requirement,is this true? Also is it easier to drill the radial holes for the regulator and dome bushes before they are soldered in ? Mike, have you done your boiler yet or are you just thinking ahead? John |

With a 30 int taper by the look of it. Might get £50 for it if anyone wants one. The Bernerd 4 jaw looks tasty, depends what backplate fitting and size it is. The other stuff doesn't look very interesting. |
Thread: Model engineer wanted to build experimental engine |

I love the animation. Bit baffled though about the 'challenge to make something different' Except for the pre charged air, which I doubt is necessary on a low revving engine,it has all been done years ago. Or am I missing the point ? Would love to see one running though. |
Thread: WARCO WM-250 lathe family and WM16 mill |
22/06/2014 06:45:14 |
I've got a vfd on my Harrison mill and one on my WM250. I found the low speed torque is not as good as they like to make out and its handy to to slip the gear or belt down when doing heavy cuts at slow speed. |

Thread: Emma-Victoria Design Discussion |

Julian, I think Henry has gone to a lot of trouble designing and getting to run a small loco for others to build. It's a brave man who does a full length article in an international magazine and he should be applauded. I've found small errors in it but there are lists of mistakes made by your mate Don and the others you mention. Show us some of yours that you've designed and published , with no errors. John
