Thread: Internal screw cutting using tap
16/05/2014 09:57:08

Hi dave , Rick & Guys
Using Clarkson auto lock collet's . A little tip if you want to use a plain cutter without the thread on the end .
Slice the threaded end off an old cutter grind a screwdriver slot across it and use it as a dummy centre . this works fine . If I can find one I will upload a photo.

Hi J & Guys

That could be a problem When at work I used a screwing rotating screwing table fitted to a Bridgeport mill using a cutter with the thread form . as you know you had to tip the head to the helix angle . the table was fitted with nuts you could change to suite the pitch required . Used for internal threads on plastic mould inserts Cant list a photo
too long ago .

Hi
You have not said the depth /deep you want to go as you could use a 3/8" / 10 mm HSS ground to suit

Hi
Why not thread it in a lathe with pressure / support from tailstock this will keep it nice and square . and help it start
They  may be a bend in the tube so may not be able to do this .  Or if its a long peice you may need a small hole in the workshop wall ?

Hi Nick
As W says Grey for HHS Green for Tungsten . Please note before fitting any grinding wheel New or second hand
Give it a tap to see if it rings. If it dont it will be cracked . also the fitted washer should not be a tiny one it may have been said before on a off hand grinder dont leave a large gap between the wheel & the rest . But you already know that !!!!

HI Niko & Guys
If you faced a large Diameter using cross slide . and it faced a slight angle . running a dti across the face using
the same cross slide. surly it would follow the same path ie zero . ?
