Thread: Amateur VE Day films on TV |
03/05/2020 00:06:04 |
Did anyone catch the programme on Channel 5 this evening showing old cine film - much of it in tremendous colour - made during the VE Day celebtrations? There were two or three bits of footage of what looked like 5 inch raised track (could have been 3 1/2", not sure). I think the photographer had come from Kings Langley where most of the rest of his film was made. Did anyone recognise where the track might have been? It's such a rarey filmed subject, it was great to see. Edited By Diane Carney on 03/05/2020 00:06:54 |
Thread: WANTED: Clockwork mechanism |
21/04/2020 22:08:35 |
I have been asked by eminent Scottish railway historian, Ann Glen, whether anyone might have available a clockwork mechanism for a Bassett-Lowke Pecket-type locomotive (Gauge 1). Her father bought the little loco in the 1930s and it was much played with until he decided to attemp a conversion to electric. This wasn't successful but sadly the clockwork mechanism was thrown away. Ann would like to return it to its original condition. If anyone has any suggestions as to where a suitable mechanism might be obtained I'd be delighted to hear of it. Best wishes |

Hi, I am trying to make the nameplates for my 5 inch gauge Crampton Locomotive ' Le Continent'. It's not a produced design so i can't buy a set.
Some lovely work illustrated in this thread, but just to corect th OP (an to let anyone else know who may be looking for 'odd one-offs' ) - that isn't necessarily the case. There is a supplier who will photo etch anything and will create the artwork in the first place. PM me if it's of interest. I'm told she's pretty good! Diane

Thread: MODEL ENGINEER COMPETITION |
08/03/2019 23:25:06 |
Yes, of course. (Note to self: Read before pasting!) Now edited. Thanks D. |

The Homepage now has the correct version of Rule 6 which previously stated that (more or less) anything that had ever been entered into any competition previously was not allowed to enter this time! This has now been clarified to read: Past Winners of an award at any previous exhibition promoted by the Model Engineer Magazine will not be eligible for re-entry unless substantially altered. Now that's more like it!! D. Edited By Diane Carney on 08/03/2019 23:22:29 |

Sadly there are no future exhibitions currently planned at Brooklands. |

The Model Engineer Competition will make a welcome return this May. MyTimeMedia are collaborating with the National Model Engineering Exhibition and the Society of Model and Experimental Engineers (SMEE) to stage, once more, the esteemed Model Engineer Competition. The setting will be the ever popular National Model Engineering Exhibition at Doncaster, 10 - 12 May and the competition will be organised and overseen by members of SMEE who will, as always, provide the judging panel. Time is very short and you have little opportunity to complete a model before May, but the organisers are mindful of this. Your entry need not necessarily be a newly completed model - although they are very welcome - but why not consider entering something that may (or may not) have been seen in exhibition before? The Model Engineer Competition is open to model engineers throughout the world. Please give it some thought: we look forward to receiving your entry forms by 10th April. Entry Forms and competition Rules are available to download from the M.E. website Homepage and will be printed in Issue 4607 (1st March) of Model Engineer. Thread: STOLEN: 4" Sentinel, Kent |
07/08/2017 09:25:11 |
Ian Day's beautiful 4 inch scale Sentinel was featured in M.E. issue 4557. Following Ian's attendance at the Weald of Kent steam rally over the weekend of 5/6 August, the Sentinel was stolen from his home over night, Sunday/Monday 6/7 August 2017. The lorry was at Ian's home in the Lordswood area of Chatham, Kent, in a securely locked box tralier parked on the drive, fastened in between the house and a car and motorhome but the thieves have cut through the box trailer and removed the Sentinel, possibly by means of horesebox. Naturally the family are devastated. This is a unique and eye-catching model: if you can help in any way - if you see the model or hear of it being offered for sale - please inform the police or, if you prefer, myself immediately (I am trying to get a crime number). I should add, by the way, that there are two further cylinder drawings in the next instalment. It's been a bit tricky getting it all in these early parts so unfortunately the three had to be split up. It will all make sense in the end Diane |

It returns in 4566. It usually follows - but not necessarily always - that a series will be in every other issue but a long series will sometimes miss occasionally. Fear not - this one has quite a way to go yet. It's only missed one. The Next Issue panel cannot include everything and tends to focus on the 'new' items rather than the series items. Are you building it, Bert?
Hope that helps. |

I have a Dropbox account but I usually recommend WeTransfer to authors. Much simpler - no account required. Just drag and drop and huge data allowance for free. WeTransfer's Terms & Conditions say they delete content after 7 days. Don't use it for backups, or on anyone who isn't on top of their Inbox! Dave Indeed. No it's purely a means of transporting files - definitely not for storage. D |
