Thread: Brilliant service
16/09/2023 12:20:40

Ordered from Arc Eurotrade 3.00pm Friday 15 September (yesterday). Goods received via DHL 9.45am Saturday 16 September (today).

Just wanted to record what I consider to be astonishing service from both companies.

Usual disclaimer: no connection apart from being a very satisfied customer with some new toys!

Thread: Arceurotrade toolpost

Hi Chris. In response to your specific question, yes I have fitted this system to my Myford. It works very well indeed.

There was a minor tweak required to remove, if I remember correctly, some material from the foot of the tool post supplied with the kit to allow it to fit in the recess in the base of the compound slide.

Arc Euro holds stock of the appropriate tool holders. This has been important to me as I have added tooling which required additional holders.

No connection with anyone, just a satisfied user.

Thread: Setting up rear parting tool properly
21/07/2021 22:52:06

Hi William. I might be wrong but I think your tool is marked as an "8mm external grooving" tool. This is for making external grooves of a modest depth. A more usual parting tool blade is shown in Alan Jackson's photograph. Trying to part off with your tool may be a challenge too far.

Thread: Can you recommend a UK supplier for good quality "mill board"?

Hi John. Have you tried a Google search using "Millboard for bookbinding? This may offer you some options.

Thread: Drawing projection, first or third?
06/09/2011 15:06:45
I seem to recall a fairly recent thread in which there was some debate about whether some artricles in MEW on the subject of engineering drawings and the interpretation of them would be of interest.

As an untrained hobbyist engineer I would appreciate any contributions from skilled and experienced engineers / draughtspersons which would help in the basic interpretation of drawings. Besides the differences between first and third angle there are other aspects such as the standardisaton of dimensions which often cause me to scratch my head.

In another life I work as a trumpet player. It's great to be able to play by ear, but to become really competent being able to sight read music is a given!

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thread: Content

I also think that David and his team do a great job. Producing three magazines month (every month!) is a serious challenge.

The content of the magazines IMHO is pretty well balanced. I would not be stimulated by reading just about subjects with which I am familiar. It's the things which I haven't seen first hand which get the old grey matter stirring. Maybe some articles are not relevant to my current activity, but I'm sure that one day I'll come across a situation where that bit of reading will come to mind.

Keep up the good work!!

As someone who reads the forum avidly, but posts very infrequently, may I add my best wishes to David for a speedy recovery.

I've long thought that the role of Moderator on these forums is a thankless task and that David carries the job off with great skill and good humour.

Thread: Hot air and stirling engines

May I suggest trumpet valve oil as a lubricant? Ready available at most musical instrument shops, a bottle will cost around a fiver. It's a bit like sewing machine oil but perhaps a bit less viscose.

Hope this is of interest.
