Thread: Small Steel Boilers
01/11/2011 04:42:29
Wayne Bell (reluctantly) made 2 of 7.5 scale boilers for me but told me that he would not make anything smaller.
If you do go down the road of steel be prepared to get an engine hoist or a double hernia. Seriosly studying the boilers I could not envisage anything smaller being made Wayne's welding is superb and I am sure that there are few specialist in this field who could emulate him.. Every bit of steel had to be documented and sources named.
The paperwork alone came to about 30 pages per boiler.
I would concur with what is said above go copper it is you best if not only option.

I was selling some stuff (IC Engines) on fleabay and one of the purchasers was in Malta it was only 30p dearer than inland post. On saying that they are part of the EU
god help them, I have an old mate in NZ who is helping to restore the TOROA Steamship, and the newsletter takes weeks. I go to Singapore and travel to airport, wait, strip search at customs etc is a day so how come you guyes have to wait weeks and weeks !! Ausie land is only another short flight away.

Robert
My Tax comes the next day almost everything else at least a week.

I am sure that David will resolve this but please remember that he is in the hands of the beancounters.

Thread: Content

Hi
.

Our club the BSMEE which is over 100 years young has ME from issue 1 in its library, and as have been building a Class B1 been borrowing volumes and I have to say the content is today far more varied than it was then. and not just a bunch of people in waders with fags stuck in there mouth.
I agree with the critic who say that adverts should not be in an editorial and if so clearly marked in the header "ADVERT" this is normal practise and indicates that it is NOT an editorial reccomendation. I enjoy the varied construction articles because even though I never will build some of then the techniques (wish we had a spellcheck) I think Hi that is a good way of doing that.

So David keep up the good work

Hi
The postal system in the UK is to say the least chaos I find on a good day it takes about a week to deliver a letter and then from someone down the road who says Hi is this your mail!
As for the free gift I asked at the ME ect; stand at an exhibition and was told this was for new subscribers and not for ones renewing .
On a commercial basis this makes sense as it would cost them a bomb to give a freeby to everyone each year, this is a sweetener to encourage people to start subscribing.
Then if it happened you would see the sub's go up at least an extra £2.00 per issue.

Oh
As far as the first indice is concerned I could ask our librarian as the BSMEE has volumes back to No:1, if you really need that info.

Hi
Try this web site and download a complete index from issue 1
They are zipped files so you need to download PKZIP to open them if you do not have it already
When you click on the link it looks like it has done nothing but scroll down to bottom of page and there they are
The files are in Excel so easy to use for a search.
There is also a useful cross reference file

Good luck and happy searching

Hi Wolfie.

Depending on space the biggest you can get and afford but keep in mind all the other bits you will want, collets, cutters, rotary table, I could go on. Depending on the flavour of what you eventualy select they may throw in a vice but be prepared to buy a decent one as the "extras" are usualy chinese.

Good luck
