I bought a rivet trimmer from Arrand some years ago saves a fantastic amount of time also crops bolts etc, It goes in the vice put your rivit in the correct hole turn vice handle and bingo one trimmed rivet. Will post a pic of it as they do not have a web site, they are a very old fashioned company and still make tools to the spec that we all were used to years ago.
Happy and prosperous new year to all

Sorry ramon as an old engineer there are many ways of linishing yes there are the very rough modern bits of kit but to get that perfect finish that will stand the test of time finish off as I suggest.

Wolfie it should not be to big a problem as I note oil holes, what gauge is it for this would suggest halfords cycle oil, I personaly used steel then casehardened for my 5" Springbok, but it is intended for a lot of track use It really depends on how much you wish it to run it. If you are planning a lot of running change it otherwise should be ok, I tend to use a drop of brasso to finish linishing and some spirits to clean up.
happy new year

Hi David
Could we get rid of these blink blink adverts as I do my utmost to ignore them they do my eyes no favours. This would solve the problem. They only take up recources on our computers. Some of your young website designers may think it COOL but I amoungst many others find it totally irritating. I do find them distracting and wish I could switch them off, but I am sure your bean counters would think otherwise.
Thank you and your team for a great Sunday at Sandown.
Regards
Bob.

I think as head of technology I would have been sacked and sued for that setup
I have seen some wacky ideas on american blogs but yours wins,
Steve I know you have only a little flat but a small vertical bandsaw would suit where you live I am sure there are many supliers,
Kindest regards and a prosperouse new year

Thread: Choice of small milling machine |
24/12/2011 01:50:22 |
Hi
Whatever you purchase and I speak from bitter experiance and it now sits in a corner do NOT please purchase one with a round pillar. I eventualy bought a Chester626 with power feed DRO et all; and have never regreted the expence. built a 7.25g on it a 5" and a few 3.5 trains Used 3 grandsons and grandaughters partner to assist in installation.
Can I come down to the Defence of David Warren of Warco I have known him for many years and is a decent chap also knew his father when they were based in Esher.
I am convinced that these days most of these machines no matter what colour or flavour come out of the same factory, you just have to look at the grizzly.com web site in the USofA and I am sure you will spot your machine. Oh thats where you can download a non chingalees manuals.

Ken Hi I have a 2 page list of errors in the drawing sent to me by Nigel Field in Canada
So if anyone is interested I can PM them. Would be interested in seeing a 3D pic Ken you must be a bit of a wiz on computers. I have also found quite a lot of holes mainly on the frames and running boards that are missing.
Neil the B1 is a 4-6-0 could you let me please have a note of page etc; to look up.
as have a complete set of the originals.

Thread: Axminster Power Tools milling vices on offer |
20/12/2011 22:08:09 |
Hi Nigel
These are extremely inacurate vices for a milling machine / mill drill or anything else come to that. no matter what the flavour or colour. Please spend a little bit more dosh and get a decent engineers vice. The vice that you are talking about I now use occasionally in my braising kiln to hold items.and has now been well tempered.
These all come out out of the same chineese factory and are usualy given as a freeby when you purchase a machine.
I apologise for being so negative to your posting but only talking from experiance.
Have a nice christmas

If you do not like radio 4 extra which I confess doese repeat itself during the day Why not try Jaz FM on your radio in the workshop and get on with building and not play with what I regard as toys.
And please do not throw them out of the pram when replying.
A merry Christmas to everyone and hope Santa is good to you.

Just out of curiosity why would you use an IPad in the workshop, my delight is getting into the workshop and getting away from all of that stuff. wife watching telly grandkids when they are round on computer games. Rest all trying to empty my drinks cabinet, went to Sandown last week with one of them and guess what he bought a computer game.
Merry Christmas to all

Hi Thank you Tony for your input but this is not what I want I am building a 5"g B1 and need a lot of the stuff. As I said this was a material that could be dampened and moulded around boilers and pipes you will note that I am involved with these posts already.
Bob
Have a nice one.

There was a thread in a forum which I am trying to track down which mentioned a material that you could dampen and mould around the boiler or pipes I should have taken a note of it but as usual did not. I remember it saying builders merchants but went in and someone built like a ***** door said duh (just like homer) end of enquiry.
So can anyone remember what the material was !!!
Would help me greatly
Have a good christmas and new year |
