If a professional seller 'sells' a boiler without a test certificate it is worth precisely scrap copper price.

The 'rubber/plastic has been 'reconstructed ' into another polymer , no way back.

Two cannibals eating a clown.

One turns to other and says , " Does this taste funny to you "?

Thread: Pin-hole in oil pan - which product to patch it?
18/12/2021 22:38:53

And , if you get too many 'bits' inside the hole you are trying to seal it will finish off your auto box .

Do it right , or not at all.

18/12/2021 19:52:31

I would be very surprised if it was just one pinhole.

If you 'mess ' with it I'm sure the truth will be revealed.

Only one safe way , replace or repair it properly.

Thread: Pulse Jet Petal Valves

The people with extensive running experience of these items were members of the Ghost Squadron , perhaps the RCME forums would be the place try.

Thread: Boiler fittings

Of all the applications , the dome is most likely to , over time , see the affect of 'steam creep' through the joint and up into the stud apertures, then condense in the gap in the threads.

Seize guaranteed.

As above , not a good long term idea to use same grade st. nuts.

Thread: Drilling and filling of the Dental kind.
03/12/2021 19:50:51

My last visit to an NHS dentist was in 1962 Allington House , Ipswich , an evening appointment.

I was 16 years old , it was the same establishment I had been taken to from 7 years old but this time I was

working as an apprentice.

Every single filling , up to this time had been done with NO injections of Novacaine and an 'electric' drill.

BUT this event was Dustin Hoffman / Marathon Man on steroids.

An old man with glasses appeared and said " the electric drill is broken " and proceeded to use a treadle drill.

PAIN .......................

NEVER, EVER used an NHS dentist since.

Perhaps half the errors have been corrected.

Only perhaps.

Thread: Perfect Stainless

Only a guess but a decent dinner service of that era would be Sheffield made nickel steel ( not plated) ,

Tough is an understatement.

Thread: Volkswagen

This bodes well for the future , just one cell u/s and it's game over.

No limp home mode for you.

The first decent wind this year and 100,000 went without electricity for 'x' days.

And if they had all relied on their EV.................?

May even be an early synchronous speed motor ?

DC on to the slip rings to lock-on to mains frequency .

Thread: Volkswagen

The same comparison by Volvo completely reverses those figures towards ICE cars being the lesser polluting

for at least the first 7 years.

Thread: I can't explain this - can you?
28/11/2021 10:40:35

Yep, had the same thing with an electric lawnmower.

Recharged battery , tried every trick 100 times over 4hrs , nothing.

Placed an order for new one.

3hrs later and tried the old one again, worked first time !

Thread: show us your workshop.

A lovely idea Steve, in a perfect world.

" BUT " , as my hero Harry Enfield would say,... " NO ",

Thread: Does charging your car battery on fast charge damage it?
23/11/2021 17:34:36

A 'standard ' cheapish battery charger output is not really 'dc' like the battery output , so be careful what you connect it to if not a battery .

Thread: Dartmoor line to Okehampton
23/11/2021 10:41:52

If the same criteria , as were applied by Beeching , were applied to most connections outside of city to city , I doubt if we would have any railways left.

The cost of using the train for normal travel is just prohibitive.

Thread: china/India - Cop 26
19/11/2021 08:33:56

A very good effort to justify heat-pumps Sam B , problem , compare the price we pay for gas/kwh against electricity/kwh and we see why , so few today , would choose to install heat pumps over a 'conventional ' gas boiler.
