How many have done simlar as in putting some thing down on the bench/worktop, turned away to get something else, turn back & cannot find the item you put down, no matter how hard you search. You then go & get an alternative tool to do the job intended put that down on the bench... right next to the item you lost in the first place, I did that yesterday. Those workshop gremlins are pretty smart, & damned fast too !

Thread: Clarke / Warco Major Milling machine drawbar self ejector
16/02/2021 18:13:26
Posted by Chris Chadwick on 16/02/2021 07:51:45:

I've recently bought a Warco WM16B milling machine, and it has a built in ejector. If you loosen the drawbar, then turn it a couple more turns it hits the nut / cover arrangement that holds the drawbar in place. Another turn and it ejects the collet holder or drill chuck as the drawbar has come up against a stop at the very top of the spindle.

A bit late, but may help.

Same arrangement on my WM16 gear head version, I believe the same on the WM18 gear / belt versions.

Big Brother IS watching you; all part of the bigger globalisation by the big Internet providers, whom no doubt have governmental connections via subsidies / finacial backing for new developmental work etc. George Orwell wasn't far wrong.

Thread: Grinding out a small crack for welding with Dremel

'If I can find someone to do it I hope to have it brazed rather than welded'

Try getting in touch with 'Doubleboost' he has brazed CI before with his TIG set, shown on one of his videos.

For that size... carbide burr !

I reckon you should use a carbide burr much better metal removal rate.

Thread: To oil or not to oil
12/02/2021 17:42:15

+1 for all the above. for my uses ...

Brass & Cast Iron - dry

Steels - with HSS Light cutting oil, SAE32 or similar. if using carbide inserts - mostly dry

Aluminium - WD 40 or parafin ( Kerosene ).

Threading - RTD or similar, I have used a heavier grade oil ( gearbox oil ) , on Aluminium I use WD40

Application - I use a kiddies non spill paint pot with 1/2 " brush ....

Thread: Boring head or fly cutter
12/02/2021 13:20:11

I am fortunate that I have one of each, fly cutter, boring head, & a 60mm face ( 4 insert  cutter so I have a choice. For the size you mention I would use my insert face cutter first followed by the fly cutter, & lastly the boring head ( as emgee's reasoning .

Thread: crane uprate - where would you add some metal ?

Simples; don't do it I bought the 1 ton version with foldable legs & jib that folds down to install my WM250V-F lathe & WM16 mill into my garage conversion, no probs, & it now stands all folded up in the corner of my garage neatley tucked away.

I have a well insulated workshop, plus 2 small oil filled rads which I switch on for an hour before I go in... nice & toasty @16*C, which also contributes to keeping moisture down .

Gave my little jig a try out today with some small drills, 1.5 - 3mm, didn't take any pics.. yet but it seems to do the job & produce new cutting edges that look ok.
