Hi all To keep this thread going I have written a little description of checking the accuracy of my WM250V-F chuck under the thread titled .. Chuck accuracy 25/08/2013... as it fitted the context, & it also applies under this thread as it is on the Warco family... can't let this thread lose track for lack of coments..have tried to link to it but can't seem to do it... any assistance? Thread: Chuck Accuracy |
25/08/2013 14:52:16 |
Hi I also thought that my chuck was pretty good for accuracy, but have noticed a small but discernable runout so I decided to do a check. I set up a test bar ( 1/2" silver steel) & clocked t close to the chuck jaws (approx' 1" my dti indicated a runout of .0015".. not a lot some might say but I wondered if I could get it any better..? so removed the chuck & checked the backplate... picked up a tiny burr on the plate ! so set too & stoned it out, checked all over & picked up a couple of other minute burrs with my fingernail (surprising how sensitive the human hand is!) neddless t say these were stoned out as well. Checked the bolts on the backplate.. not what you would call tight! one was a quarter turn loose!! so all were snugged up (being the original chinese bolts I didnt want to tempt fate with the thread grip.. so will get some 8.8 grade studs from local supplier next week) I wasn't overly happy with the SHCS either, I noticed on one the suggestion of the grade stamping being hard up against the register so I ground back lightly on all three SHSC heads to relieve any contact. I also checked the register & stoned out a minute burr off that.. fingernail method again.. Having just got a compressor I cleaned out the scroll, jaws, & checked for any burrs on the jaws, none found so reassembled, oiled & refitted to spindle, replacing the annoying original nuts & washers with SS flanged nuts.. much less fiddling about. Did a dti check & have ended up with a run out of less than .0005" (1/2 thou' .. result! .. so it goes to show, as others have commented..cleanliness does make a massive difference on accuracy.. & I aint' going chasing after half a thou' Initial runout.. After burr removed, register, jaws etc cleaned.. Cheers George

Thread: DRO waterproofing............. |

Hi Dias Ooops! missed that little bit, thanks, but in the same context it is mounted in the same general configuration, will look at turning them 180*... & possibility of mounting the X axis on rear of table but at the moment my extended chip guard is preventing any chips / splashes coming in to contact with the X dro as it ( the guard) sits in the bottom of the front T slot ... & it works fine so far. Never the less thanks for the idea. Regards George Edited By mechman48 on 24/08/2013 10:52:33 |

Robbo I can only suggest what Nick has done, check the 'compatability' mode, I checked mine when I rebooted & it was off (unchecked) so..? go to your 'tools' tab click & you will get a drop down list..look for 'compatability view' & 'compatability view settings'.. make sure that both are unchecked.. that should cure it.. hope this helps. I am having the self same problem today as Ian S C & everyone else... blank box, no album titles, dots etc ... if this is the new template then it's rubbish ! ... I'd rather put up with the old system & suffer a few ads over text, at least I could post pics, A Very disgruntled... G. Edited By mechman48 on 23/08/2013 20:25:07 |

Welcome,
Stay away from social media, just concentrate on getting this site working correctly, i.e autosave comments in replies,(other forums can do it why can't MEW?) on more than one occasion I have written comments & when refering back to other pages or my pc folders for information I return only to find the comments have been deleted (not saved) & I have had to start again,(as in this example), have now resorted to copy text to a word doc then at least I can copy & paste back again! another annoyance is having the ads cover comments on occasions.. the ads column has been located at least a third of the way in from the right & I have given up trying to read some posts due to this. A proper working forum site is worth more than some social media access... & what the hell is 'pinterest'? ... Oh I see... just clicked on link & found out that it is just a quick ref. to articles gleaned from the digital archives Cheers George. |

Thread: Using a Fly Cutter to face aluminium. |
16/08/2013 10:14:18 |
Chris I have used a left handed carbide tipped cutter in a home made holder for some fly cutting, I used an old MT2 drill taper & machined a holder to suit the cutter. It has cut Brass, Ally, & MS without too much effort.. but only with light d.o.c. on. I now use a 4 tipped indexible insert for any fly cutting that I need to do & it has cut all materials quite effectively. Cheers George. |

Hi Pailo I Have the 250V-F & hav had no problem with the gears / banjo; I have noted & mentioned in the other Warco forum that there is what I consider over large axial clearance on the gear id but having checked the backlash & reset the gap there hasbeen no problems. George |

Nick, What is the bolt fastened into, is it a large chunk of metal / casting /axle /frame?.. I have released a few rusted / seized bolts over the years & one trick I used was to heat the bolt to dull / cherry red then quickly cool the surrounding area with cold water this should then release any seized material due to shock temperature change, as you already have a hole in the bolt , if it 's not right through, heat the bolt then pour some ice cold water down the hole this should cause shock contraction of the remaining wall thickness & any overspill will do the same to the surrounding material, thus breaking any grip between the threads...obviously this shock change in temp' would / can cause some fracture in thin or important surrounding work, but if it's not critical ..go for it! ps, Have looked at your link (thanks) & I assume that you have to buy a plug in 12v DC transformer as power supply; how did you connect them together.. in series / parallel? not being aux faix with electrickery at the best of times connection info would be appreciated (diagram ?) . TIA George |

Rik Would be interested in how you fixed lights to the WM 16 mill head as it has a hollow space for access to the tilting & securing bolts..poss' pic, I'm looking at some sort of clip on back board. Cheers George Edited By mechman48 on 28/07/2013 11:29:51 |

I have a M/Mart 6" linisher, came supplied with 80 grit belt,I bought some more belts... spare 80 grit & a couple of 120 grit for a finer finish... so the higher the grit # the finer the grit size & smoother finish. I am looking for belts with an even higher grit # .. 400 - 600 grit.. anyone have any info' as to retailer/supplier? George |
