If you do use the oven make sure you have due authority from the domestic authorities.

Nice job, I need to look at mounting mine at a right angle to the leadscrew.

What machine have you got Phil?

Cracking. That’s a great idea. How will you shield it from all the oil dripping off the tumbler? The bottom inside of mine always has a thick layer of oil on it not excessive oiling, just doing the standard when I remember.....

The tumbler will be removed as stepper reversal can done by electrical switching. If not by the SW, by an additional switch to alter the winding energisation.

Thread: Electronic Lead Screw Project

After a minor hiccough with the first attempt I have managed to squeeze the stepper motor into the change-wheel housing of my S7. The first attempt left me unable to close the door without modifying it.
Mk2 means the door can be left unmolested so the lathe can be returned to stock if my efforts prove to be a monumental disaster. The next job is to mount and make the drive for the rotary encoder.s7 door closed.jpgs7 stepper bracket 2.jpgs7 stepper bracket 1.jpg

I've followed this thread from its inception. I plan to drive my Super 7's lead-screw via 90 degree skew gears thus containing the stepper motor completely within the change-gear compartment. To design and make the mounting requires the removal of the banjo but I became side-tracked with other more pressing tasks.

Now I'm back on track I'll try and put up some photos of my progress,

I used hot melt glue to pot some resistors recently (for track circuiting) A lot easier than messing about with 2 pack resins, especially for a small amount

track circuiting what pray tell?

Perhaps, in safe hands, part of the money about to be wasted on HS2 could be better spent?

Regards Ian.

Not wasted if you understand it. Production of a handful of motorcycles will benefit a handful of people. HS2, if completed, will benefit much of the population, even to those parts of the country as far flung from the network such as Aberystwyth.

I'm not too sure about the choice of material for the duplicate gun stock.

Thread: Co2 emissions.. Steam or diesel best?

If people are concerned about the emissions from "model" steam locomotives which are used on a very infrequent basis, perhaps they should spend more time worrying about their own personal CO2 emissions and hold their breath !!

Particularly those most verciferous.

I would use oxy-acy using cast iron rod and ferro flux. Normalize after weldinf.

If iron, without a specialist muffle to do a pre-weld preheat and (more importantly) post-weld normalise I wouldn't even think about welding. Brazing would be far safer thus minimising the likelihood of producing brittle carbides each side of the weld.

Ali is a completely different ball o' wax.

I'm a little unsure why a number of us are getting all excited about varying voltages with varying lamp-holders. Similar pattern incandescent lamps and their LED replacements have been available for years in both 24v and 230v with B27 and GU9 bases

Additionally both 24v and 110v lamps are available with E27 bases of the same pattern

But just to note that Hemingway charge £27 for £10 worth of thrust bearings and some bits of steel and bronze. There's no need to replace the existing bush so you don't need the bronze; and the end caps to position and shield the thrust bearings can be made from a scrap of 1 inch steel bar that may well be in your scrap box.

For intellectual completeness could you provide a bearing part No?

Can you get access to a shaper? They are one of those much undervalued machines well suited to such tasks.
