Just to add something to this old thread.

If you are having trouble with VFDs tripping RCDs, then maybe try changing, or redoing, your wiring, as a first port of call.

I had an VFD that was working without problem, when plugged into a socket on the upstairs ring main.

I temporarily used the VFD downstairs, to run a 3 phase motor on a drill press. Every time I switched the power off, the RCD tripped.

I have just moved the drill press to a new location in the downstairs room, put a new extension lead on, and redid the wires between the VFD and motor. I powered the VFD from the same ring main socket as before. The RCD does not trip at all now. Why, I don't know.

Hi Dave

Can this disaster be saved by cross drilling the knob, to accept a very short 3mm diameter tommy bar, to provide a bit more leverage; or will a tommy bar get in the way and be inconvenient. Maybe cross drill a couple of times, so that the tommy bar can be re-positioned if it fouls the jaws?

Forget the knurls. What about the handles on supermarket shopping trolleys. Ugh, I can't bear thinking about it. Think about it next time you go (and take a rag)!

I've often had the life frightened out of me with random stuff coming out of the speaker.

In my case it is due to adverts on web pages, in the browser, suddenly coming alive!!!!!!!

Have had radio waves picked up through the speakers from time to time, but usually faint and garbled, and not long lasting.

Ah, that reminds of the Valor Valiant we had in our house. It always fascinated me as a kid ......

I came home from school one lunchtime, I must have been about 10, and the whole house was filled with black smoke. The Valor Valiant had been left on all morning, and the wick had malfuntioned. The house was covered in a black sooty residue for days, until mum cleaned it up! And that was the last I saw of the Valor Valiant.

Get a filter, or be a filter.

You want to initially collect the dust at source, i.e. via an extraction hose on your tool. You then want an air cleaner, to knock out the airborne particles.

I use the Axminster NVD750 twin motor vacuum. It is not cheap, but it does a good job. The NVD750 does not get all the particles, so I back it up with the Axminster AFS500 air cleaner. Both of these filter out to 1 and 5 microns and manage to knock out virtually all of the airborne particles. I also always use a face mask FFP2/FFP3. A throat and nose full of MDF dust prompted me to shell out. What price is your health?

I am after purchasing a copy. The AMBSC website listed a few suppliers in Australia, and I just wondered if I could buy a copy from somewhere more local. I bought a programming book from America once, and the import fees were almost as much as the book, which was not cheap!

Duncan, where did you buy your copy, may I ask?

Thanks for the heads up Ady1. The roads and vehicles will be a different place in 20 years time, and you will probably be able to pick up a battery for one of them in Halfords!
