Thread: help with fusion 360 |
17/12/2017 09:52:06 |
THIS YouTube channel is produced by AutoDesk. Although primarily designed as a series of monthly challenges, the solutions are very well produced, with explicit instructions and objectives given for every step. There is no need to join or to submit your own solution - just watch the official solutions. Each bite-sized challenge consists of modelling a simple 3D object, the creation of which often requires the use of a particular, non-obvious, F360 technique or command. I've found it to be one of the very best F360 teaching aids I've found. |

Sorry Gary, I was confusing you with someone else who said their mag hadn't arrived and wasn't sure who to contact. Neil I contacted them last Tuesday, as suggested, and was told a copy would be posted to me. Since it still hasn't arrived I contacted them again today (Monday) only to discover they have no more copies. Now what do I do? |

Thread: Engineers level |

Thanks every body. I've found this one :-
which is 45"/2mm so is this .005" per foot? I really don't understand the conversion !! Thank you Ian No. 2mm in 45" is 0.533mm in 12", or 0.021" per foot. It's OK for woodwork but I wouldn't use it to level a lathe. |
20/11/2017 13:09:02 |
Hmm. I interpret the specs as 2mm in 90", or approx. 3minutes of arc, or just over .01" per foot. Is that accurate enough for levelling a lathe? |

Another thing to do when it's hour-change time is to turn all stopcocks off and on to ensure that they remain operational. It's no joke to find that a stopcock can't be closed when you need to turn the water off for an emergency or plumbing modification. Just turn them off and on twice a year helps to prevent them seizing up. The hour-change is simply a good reminder. |

Two hydrogen atoms walk into a bar. One says to the other "I think I've lost an electron." "Are you sure?" was the reply. "Yes, I'm positive." |

Thread: Introduction |

Mine are 15, 23, 32 and 40. My gearbox is setup with the 15 driving the 40 and I almost never change 'cos I've modified the motor to accept 240v from an inverter which I use to control the speed and direction of traverse - see my Centec folder. |

Thread: 6" MS Bar for Z axis extension |
15/09/2017 09:45:12 |
Bear in mind that that, unless you want to greatly extend the mounting studs, you will need to machine access ports in the side to accept and tighten the retaining nuts. This job is simplified by using two lengths of 6" bar that are bolted together after machining the ports in one of them. This does, of course, mean two cuts. |

A couple of years ago I made a riser for a friend's VMC out of 6082T6 aluminium. It can just be seen in the following photos. Aluminium was chosen after good results from making a number of raising blocks for CenteC mills. |
Thread: Twisting brass wire |
06/09/2017 08:02:16 |
I've done this several times in precious metals (which is not totally dissimilar to brass), but used single lengths bent double. The free ends were clamped in a vice and a small hook was held in the chuck of a drill brace (I used a hand brace but a cordless drill will do the job). The hook was placed in the end of the loop of wire and the drill started. I had to keep the wire in slight tension as the twist developed. As the twist progresses the wire work-hardens and will break unless it is re-annealed. Keep going until the required amount of twist is reached. |
Thread: Fusion 360 |

I personally found that the Fusion on-line help system leaves a lot to be desired and I got a lot of info from:... The early series of YouTube videos called Fusion Friday and the series called Fusion 360 Challenge of the Month. The Fusion Friday link actually covers two series: Fusion Friday (identified as FFxx) and Wednesday Widgets (identified as WWxx) where the xx is the sequence of the video. You'll probably want to skip the WW items. The Challenge of the Month series is particularly good.
