Richard I can do it with the existing chuck/faceplate but that involves making a stub thread to check the existing faceplate then modify (if needed) the new axminster chuck...it would be better with the spindle Ian |
Thread: making ring from stone. |
29/10/2016 10:25:04 |
Meteorite's come in 2 varietys iron based and rocky the iron based has nickle in it and exhibits weidensteins ( sp) lines to prove its from a meteorite the example in the link is a iron one so easy to turn
If you mean your daughter saw the video and wanted to make a ring out of earthly stone then granite or slate will work and tipped tools cut it reasonably easy Edited By Ian Parkin on 29/10/2016 10:29:11 |

Thread: Russian aircraft carrier in the channel |
22/10/2016 13:35:55 |
Ok it was stated in the independent today that it was nuclear powered The wikipedia entry isn't conclusive as to whether its nuclear though is it? Diesel powered generators But the main propulsion fuel isn't mentioned |
22/10/2016 13:05:54 |
Why was the russian aircraft carrier cruising down the channel belching out black smoke if its nuclear powered? |

Peter The 2 collars are holding the bearing in and don't need to be removed they set the end float Can you post a picture of your lathe? |
17/10/2016 14:07:16 |
Peter Its quite easy I have done it a few times the drive shaft as you say has a dog collar clutch sometimes with spring balls that you can lose easily.. The lead screw you remove the top off the gearbox and then there's a collar with 4 slots in it also with a grub screw to stop it undoing. You need to undo the grub and then unscrew the collar at the same time drawing the lead screw to the right hand side...make a note of which gear mates with which other gear on the gearbox row of gears..carry on removing the collar and moving the screw rightways when the collar is loose the screw will pull out be careful not to drop and spacers and the gears. Oh and i seem to remember there's a circlip in there too Oh and before you start loosen the collar at the far right hand side of the lead screw at the end of the bed Its a bit fiddly getting it all back together but its just a reverse of disembly. I have a spare half nut if you need one I have no idea on age but pre 65 if its a mk1 Edited By Ian Parkin on 17/10/2016 14:14:22 |
Thread: morse taper |
14/10/2016 11:40:27 |
Generally the morse taper will come out of the chuck and then you could buy or make a new spindle with a mt2 and whatever end to suit the chuck The spindles/arbours are only a £5 or so Edited By Ian Parkin on 14/10/2016 11:42:16 |

The above article talks about 2 versions of the saw one with adjustable blade guides ( for angle) and the other with preset guides mine are preset hence my previous comment of I wasnt sure what the op meant about blade angle |
11/10/2016 21:03:12 |
I think i bought one about the same time branded Sealey in the last 28 years its worked its heart out..ok its not the best constructed machine but for the price paid I don't think it can be beat.I generally buy Starret blades. I'm not sure what you mean by the blade angle adjustments? Mine seems to cut at 90 out the box |
