Thread: Metric Mini Lathe Leadscrew
12/04/2013 21:56:53

Stub Mandrel, there is not named which brand is the lathe..

My Sieg lathe has 2 mm lead screw, MJ-358 has 1,5 mm lead screw and Emco Unimat 3 has 1 mm lead screw.

To learn out pitch of lead screw: Place the caliper ruler between the head stock and the cross slice, then rotate the lead screw one turn while you are reading how much is the mm or inches the pitch of the lead screw.

Hi, here is the drawings of the drain cocks in millimetre for "non imperial" engineer **LINK**

02/04/2013 20:08:24

Svarven, i do not have the drawnings of the draincocks. I can make a drawings to you if you want.

31/03/2013 20:37:55

In case you has not imperial treads for drain cocks, use M4 treads in the cylinder and make own drain cock, it is not difficult. I did with my Stuart D10 with ownmade drain cocks since the draincocks is not cheap to order from UK due toll tax.

17/03/2013 00:22:51

Keith, Phil, thanks a lot.. i learned the 3" Southworth boiler feed pump cost £28, not expensive compared to a Stuart boiler feed pump who cost £73.50. I am planning to order the set and plan. I need to have boiler feed pump in my tugboat.

16/03/2013 21:28:53

Dear all folks!

I searched after the website after the Southworth simplex vertical boiler feed pump who is smallest, there is no website available. Out of business???

Not only cheap products of cast iron will break the casting error. A close friend of mine worked for Sabb Motor A / S (marine engine factory in Bergen) told me ... he had problems with balancing the flywheel when he drilled the balancing holes in the flywheel to get the correct balance. The flywheel was hollow inside cause of casting defects.

Thread: Dividing Plate Advice
19/02/2013 21:35:36
Posted by Thor on 19/02/2013 05:53:39:

Hi John,

When I made a dividing plate I glued the paper template to the work and clamped it to the centre of the table. Moved the arm slightly so the centre drill lined up with one of the circles on the template. Then just rotate the table until the drill lines up with each mark, lock the table and drill.

Regards

Thor

This method Thor recommend can lead to inaccurate distance between holes. Recommended to use indexing head table. The other method: use gear wheel as "indexing plate".

Thread: Rust in CI Cylinders
18/02/2013 05:43:58

Boat shop is selling the preservative oil for boat engine against rust when the boat is stored away in winter period.

I has Stuart steam engine. After use, i am using pressure air to drive out water via drain cocks and adding the preservative oil inside via steam pipe to steam engine and spread preservative oil around inside steam engine while the steam engine is handcranked. Let the drain cocks be open to ventilate the cylinders/steam chest.

Thread: boiler water level gauge
13/02/2013 20:13:35

Wait a little, it is not common with 40 treads in 5/16" water gauge, mostly used 5/16"x32 as here: **LINK**

Maybe you must replace the old bushings at the boiler to the new bushings with 5/16"x32 to use the watergauge with 5/16"x32.

13/02/2013 20:05:41

There is treaded 5/32" and 1/8" for water gauge, why mot make an adapter to make connection between boiler and water level gauge?

Thread: Reamers
12/02/2013 20:43:03

I has a set of adjustable reamers. I had never regretted to own the adjustable reamer. It is very practical when you need to adjust the hole in the shaft with adjustable reamer or adjusting the bearing size for the rotating shaft to example..

To preventing chatter depenting on material, use cuttingfluid + slow rotating speed by hand (never use power by the lathe or drillpress!)

I thought TOS was Eastern European?

Neil

TOS is Czech product, also Czech is in East Europe.

**LINK**

I has used the TOS Trenčín lathe at Upper secondary school in 1986-88, sturdy and good lathe.

Alan Smith 6...

The Burnerd chucks is not available in Norway. The Burnerd chucks is often mounted at Myford lathes who was sold in Norway. We has some dealer who is importing the TOS chuck, ask Albert E.Olsen (google it..) about they can order the TOS chuck for you. Better to buy from UK due cheap lathe equipments + customer fee.
