66 forum posts 13 photos | I have to machine the dome on one half of the aluminium stock - the kit does not give you a lot to play with. Having machined the recess on one side I now need to machine the dome and create the flange 2.5 mm thick. My plan is to machine a piece of brass to fit the 7mm and 24mm diameter and loctite in place. I have already created the offsets and steps to create the dome profile prior to finishing with a file. Q. Will this work and what grade loctite given that I need to take overall dome dimension down to 30 before starting the dome procedure. |

![]() 25215 forum posts 3105 photos 1 articles | I'd just hold it by the OD with soft jaws if you have them if not there is still enough thickness to hold provided you don't get greedy with the cuts 638 would do if you want to stick it |

66 forum posts 13 photos | Thanks Jason - I don’t have soft jaws and therefore would be holding with a bit of protective packing in the jaws on about 2mm to give 0.5mm clearance for machining. The flange and dome - I was worried this wouldn’t be sufficient to take the gentle cuts necessary. |

627 forum posts 72 photos | I have had success with a trick I learned off a post by Brian Wood by useing a block of wood and glueing with gorilla glue. Clamp the workpiece to the wood in the vice and leave overnight.True the piece in the 4 jaw and turn to size. When finished saw off the wood as close to the workpiece as possible and clean off the glue,I use a wood chisel,I have not had work come adrift and have used this method in the bandsaw and cut a 1" * 5" bar in half with no trouble thanks to Brian's post. |

5307 forum posts 83 photos | I'd try 40 bar with a 24 spigot and superglue and light cuts. When finished heat it to release. Edited By duncan webster on 23/01/2023 18:04:22 |
