Thread: WARCO WM-250 lathe family and WM16 mill - 001
25/04/2014 20:27:33

Whilst on the subject of milling, has anyone converted their WM16 to inverter drive? The reason being I am contemplating doing this to mine ( I find that my motor eats brushes). Also is it the spindle gears which are plastic and will the ones Arceurotrade sell fit? When I do carry out this conversion I would like to retain the Hi Lo gears to increase the usable speed range.

Hi Ron, I have fitted the Arc Euro DRO's to my WM16 X and Y axis fairly straight forward fit.

Hi Ed, will try taking the weight off the head and then adjust the gibs.

Will Warco offer an inverter upgrade for the WM250 do we think?

Sorry to hear of your disaster Bill, hope you get things sorted out soon.

Whilst on the subject of corrosion removal has anyone got any ideas for cleaning up corrosion from aluminium brake calipers? I remember from when I was in the aircraft industry we used a product called Deoxodine 624,this killed corrosion on ally but I can't find a similar product for home use.

Thread: Caliper piston tolerance

Well who's a numpty then? Thanks Mick I looked in the manual after you had reminded me, never thought to look in there! Anyway the ones I have made are in tolerance (30.12mm - 30.2mm) Thanks for the replies panic over.

Hi Ian I got the dimension 30.18mm by measuring the origional piston, I suspect that the true size should be 30.00mm. I have a very very fine surface finish done with 24000 grade paper. I think I will go with them.

Hi all. I have been making a set of 4 stainless pistons for my motorbike,on completion I find that they are all .03mm undersize they should be 30.18mm I've ended up with 30.15mm. The question is will they be OK to use or shall I remake them? I think that they should be OK as the seals should take up the.03.

You could try metal stitching,I have done this in the past on big diesels and pump casings. I believe kits are available and there some good guides on youtube.

Thread: WARCO WM-250 lathe family and WM16 mill - 001
23/12/2013 15:18:53

Hello all,has anyone else had problems when lowering the head on their WM16 mill? I find that it judders or sticks on the way down. I have checked and adjusted the gibbs but nothing seem to to cure it, I have thought about fitting a flipping strong spring to put it under some load. Any thoughts?

The BF20 looks very very similar to my Warco WM16 am I right? Maybe the ballscrews would fit it. I will have to do some investigation.

Thread: Lathe run out
01/12/2013 13:44:45

I have just been setting up my lathe after moving house and have managed to achieve a run out of .0009" over 15" is this acceptable for general use or should I try to better it? The lathe in question is a Warco WM250.

I have aquired some M6 taps from the Tap and Die Co. They are marked up HQS, I assume that it refers to the steel they are made from but what is it? To be honest they look quite poor quality, they were bought to replace a set of M6 Sherwood taps which got lost when I moved house.Does the team think that I will get the same amount of use from them (I had the Sherwoods for over 15 years) they were used very frequently in steel/stainless steel ally etc.
